Brian Cantwell Smith Teaching Award
Brian Cantwell Smith served as Dean of the Faculty of Information from 2003 to 2008, a period that transformed the Faculty from a small, library-focused school into an internationally recognized centre for interdisciplinary research and education. Many of today’s signature programs, including User Experience Design and Human-Centred Data Science, trace their roots to his vision.
To honour his contributions, the Faculty of Information has established the Brian Cantwell Smith Teaching Award, made possible through the generosity of an anonymous donor. This award will recognize excellence in teaching and carry forward his legacy as both a pioneering scholar and an admired mentor.
