Adobe Captivate localization

Adobe Captivate is a course authoring tool for building interactive e-learning content: quizzes, simulations, and responsive slides. Captivate can export course text for translation as XML files. You can upload the exported XML into Localazy, translate the course content on the platform, and import the translated file back into Captivate to produce the localized course.

How Localazy works with Adobe Captivate files

Export your course captions and text as XML from Captivate, upload the file to Localazy, translate, and download the translated XML for re-import.

  • XML file format support - Captivate’s exported XML uploads directly into Localazy. Just drag and drop your file.
  • Structure preserved - the file you download matches what Captivate expects, so re-import just works.
  • Translate your way - Localazy AI, machine translation, your team, or professional translators ordered directly on the platform.
  • Review workflow - translations can go through human review and approval before they end up in front of learners.

Helpful Localazy features for Captivate course translation

Tag collapsing for XML-heavy content

E-learning exports tend to bury short sentences under formatting markup. Localazy’s tag collapsing replaces inline tags with compact placeholders, so translators read clean course text instead of raw XML, and every tag is restored exactly when the file is exported.

Validation that protects re-import

A single malformed tag in a translated XML file can make Captivate reject the import. Localazy validates code and placeholders in every translation and flags problems in the editor, where they’re easy to fix, not after a failed import.

Translation memory across courses

Training programs reuse phrasing constantly: navigation instructions, quiz prompts, boilerplate slides. Translation memory carries those translations across every course in your program, keeping wording consistent and reducing the work each new course requires.

Some platforms and frameworks may complicate the translation process by exporting translation files with a lot of XML/HTML tags.

If you can’t configure your export process to exclude these tags, you can use Localazy’s tag collapsing feature. This nifty feature simplifies these, often excessive, tags into a simple one-letter tags, allowing your translators to clean up the text and make the content more accessible.

Collapsed tags are automatically reverted to their original form when the translation is saved, ensuring content integrity.

No need! Just export your translations again after your changes and upload it to the same Localazy project; unchanged strings are not touched, identical duplicates can be translated using Translation Memory, and only new or modified strings need translation work. For course libraries, Connected Projects allow you to share translation memory across courses in multiple projects, so recurring phrases like navigation labels and instructions are translated only once.
