Set up and use Gemini on your watch

You can chat with Gemini on your watch when Gemini is also your digital assistant on the phone connected to your watch. To use Gemini on your watch, make sure Gemini is set as your digital assist app on your connected phone.

To get started, you will need:

To set up Gemini on your watch:

  1. Tap your watch’s screen or press a button to wake the screen.
  2. Open the App menu then tap Gemini Image.
    • If you don’t have Gemini on your watch, you can download it through the Play Store.
  3. Follow the set-up instructions on your watch and paired phone, if applicable.

Note: We’re gradually releasing Gemini on watches wherever the Gemini mobile app is available, so it might not be available to you just yet.

Chat with Gemini on your watch

You can chat with Gemini on your watch in a few ways:

  • Button: On your watch, press and hold the designated button (setup may be required; specific button may vary by OEM).
  • Hotword: Say "Hey Google." Your watch must be awake to listen for your hotword.
    • To turn “Hey Google” detection on or off, tap Settings and then Google and then Digital assistant and then “Hey Google.”
  • Complication: On your watch face, if you have added it as a complication, tap Gemini Image.
  • Tile: In your watch app, you can add Gemini as a tile you can access when you swipe left or right.

Chat with Gemini with Raise to Talk

On some WearOS devices, you can chat with Gemini by raising your wrist close to your mouth. This provides a hands-free experience to interact with Gemini without saying a hotword or pressing a button.

Please refer to the documentation provided by your device manufacturer on how to enable "Raise to Talk".

When Raise to Talk is turned on, your watch will actively sense your arm movement to recognize the Raise to talk gesture. Raise to talk can sometimes activate Gemini unintentionally with your arm movement.

How Gemini uses your location on your watch

Your Gemini app on your Wear OS watch uses the location permissions you choose for the Google app, which hosts the digital assistant capabilities used by both Gemini and Google Assistant. Learn more about location permissions.

  1. On your Wear OS watch, open Settings Image.
  2. Tap Location and then App location permissions and then Google Digital Assistant Image.
  3. Check whether “Use precise location” is on Image.
