Winter Break
December 23, 2012 - January 19, 2013
Unless a resident has signed-up for Winter Break Housing, students must vacate their rooms within 24 hours of their last exam or by noon on Sunday, December 23, whichever is earlier. Planning for Next Year
Does it seem a bit early to be talking about where your student will live next year? We agree. Unfortunately, off-campus housing options in the Madison area begin sending messages to students at this early date. We encourage you and your student to investigate all your options for living next year, including returning to the University Residence Halls.
To this end, our process for returning begins after Winter Break, to give you enough time to consider various options and to allow your student to get to know their potential future roommates better. Above all else, please take your time in making a decision, and be sure to take a look at why thousands of University Housing residents decide to return each year.
Winter Break Housing
Winter Break Housing is available in all University Residence Halls. Students can choose one of two options:
December 23, 2012 – January 19, 2013 (cost: $225)
January 2, 2013 – January 19, 2013 (cost: $150)
Fees for Winter Break housing are non-negotiable and will apply for any length of stay during the above stated sessions. Information on how to sign-up for Winter Break Housing will be sent to your wisc.edu email address in early November. You must sign-up prior to December 19, 2012 to be eligible. The University Residence Halls open for the 2013 Spring Semester on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 8:00am.
Email Updates for Parents
New this year, students have the opportunity to enter an email address for a parent/guardian to receive general updates and information from the University Residence Halls. Students log in to My UW Housing and then click on “Emergency and Other Contacts” on the left side of the screen. For any email addresses entered, be sure the email user adds assignme@housing.wisc.edu to their list of contacts so messages can be received.
University Residence Halls Construction and Renovation
We are improving and expanding housing on the UW-Madison campus in response to demand from first-year students and their families. Current major projects of note include:
- New 32 Residence Hall located south of Kronshage Hall and east of Cole Hall & Holt Commons in the lakeshore neighborhood will open in August 2013 and be the new home for the GreenHouse Learning Community
- Carson Gulley Commons located south of Adams & Tripp Halls and east of Slichter Hall in the lakeshore neighborhood is being renovated and will re-open in August 2013 with new marketplace dining venues, elevators, and common spaces
