The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday (September 9) conducted raids at premises linked to Karnataka PWD Minister and senior Congress leader Satish Jarkiholi, his MP daughter Priyanka Jarkiholi, and some others as part of an investigation in a money laundering case, officials said.
MP daughter Priyanka Jarkiholi's premises also under scrutiny
ED teams are conducting searches at approximately 18 locations across Bengaluru and Belagavi in Karnataka, as well as in parts of Maharashtra. According to officials, these include the 64-year-old minister's residence in Bengaluru's Dollars Colony.
In the morning, a team of ED officials, accompanied by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, arrived at the minister's official residence in two vehicles. Subsequently, a search operation was initiated within the premises. Tight security arrangements have been put in place during the operation. However, the ED has not yet disclosed what items, if any, have been recovered during the searches.
According to ED sources, the scope of the investigation is not limited to Satish Jarkiholi alone; premises linked to his daughter, Priyanka Jarkiholi, an MP from the Chikkodi Lok Sabha seat, are also being searched. His brother-in-law, Y Manjunath, is also covered in the searches.
This case is not related to the Excise case against Manjunath. This is a separate money laundering case against Satish Jarkiholi.
Who is Satish Jarkiholi?
Satish Jarkiholi serves as the PWD Minister in the Karnataka government and is considered a senior Congress leader. He is also regarded as a close associate of party president Mallikarjun Kharge.
Consequently, the ED's action against premises linked to the minister and his family is viewed as politically significant.
Y Manjunath is the son of Devendrappa, the former MP from Ballari. His wife is the sister of Satish Jarkiholi, as well as BJP MLAs Ramesh Jarkiholi and Balachandra Jarkiholi.
Earlier in June, the federal agency searched the residence of Y Manjunath, an Additional Commissioner of Excise and brother-in-law of Jarkiholi, in Belagavi. Officials had also searched the residences of his close aides and relatives. The searches were reportedly linked to allegations of illegal transfer of money to foreign countries.
During the operation, searches were conducted not only at Manjunath's apartment in Bengaluru but also at the properties of his close associates in Mysuru and Arsikere.
