Strengthening the nation's use of forensic science through improved standards.
About us
Administered by NIST, OSAC is a collective body of more than 800+ forensic science practitioners and other experts representing all levels of the government, academia, and industry. Together, these members have expertise in a broad array of forensic science disciplines as well as scientific research, measurement science, statistics, law, and policy. OSAC is working to strengthen forensic practice through improved standards. To do this we: facilitate the development of technically sound, science-based standards through a formal standard developing organization (SDO) process; evaluate existing standards published by SDOs for placement on the OSAC Registry; promote the use of the OSAC Registry approved standards throughout the forensic science community; and establish and maintain working relationships with other similar organizations.

Synergy: The interaction of separate organizations to produce a result greater than the sum of their individual parts. NIST’s Forensic Science Standards Program recently hosted the inaugural Forensic Science Standards Synergy Summit, bringing together a small group of leaders from SDOs, accrediting bodies, OSAC, and NIST to collaboratively explore ways to harmonize existing forensic science standards, identify gaps, and develop strategies to bridge them. We look forward to sharing key outcomes and engaging the broader forensic community in the coming year as this work continues! https://lnkd.in/ewyTcx4V #NationalForensicScienceWeek #NIST #ForensicScience #Forensics #Standards

Are you familiar with the ISO 21043 standards – the international standard series written specifically for forensic science? Spanning five parts, ISO 21043 was designed to cover the forensic science process – from the scene to the courtroom. Learn more about what the series covers, its application, and how your state or local publicly funded organization can request free access through NIST: https://lnkd.in/es-8HqxF #ForensicScienceWeek #NIST #ForensicScience #Forensics #Standards
