The fight to win best drama series is headlined by season two of Apple TV+’s Severance, which received 27 nominations across all categories this year, more than any other show. But it faces strong competition, particularly from HBO Max’s The Pitt, as well as from the channel’s own The White Lotus and Disney+’s Andor. On the comedy side, all of the buzz centers on Apple TV+’s The Studio, which received more nominations than any other comedy, including guest actor nods for Hollywood legends Ron Howard and Martin Scorsese. But it will have to fend off Only Murders in the Building (Hulu) as well as Abbott Elementary (ABC), The Bear (FX/Hulu), and Nobody Wants This (Netflix).

The incomparable Kathy Bates (Matlock) is the clear favorite for the top actress award on the drama side in a field that includes Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us) and Keri Russell (The Diplomat). Meanwhile, all signs point to another beloved longtime actress, Jean Smart (Hacks), winning the lead award for comedy, even against such popular and critical favorites as Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Kristen Bell (Nobody Wants This), and Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), who won the award for best supporting actress in a comedy in 2024.

The nominees for lead actor in a drama series is a star-studded list as well, featuring Gary Oldman (Slow Horses), Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us), and Sterling K. Brown (Paradise)—but Noah Wyle (The Pitt) has emerged as the favorite. Seth Rogen (The Studio) leads the pack for lead actor in a comedy, against such heavyweights as Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building), Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), and Jason Segel (Shrinking).
