Kaiserslautern have signed former German international Steffen Freund to
replace injured Swiss midfielder Ciriaco Sforza.
The 33-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year contract after being released by Tottenham Hotspur at the end of last season.
Freund is delighted to return to the German top-flight, where
he played with distinction for Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund.
"Returning to the Bundesliga is a great challenge for me," said Freund.
"The great atmosphere at the Betzenberg is similar to that at my
former clubs Borussia Dortmund and Schalke."
Freund, a member of Germany's victorious 1996 European
Championship side, made 170 Bundesliga outings for Dortmund.
He won consecutive German titles with Borrusia in 1995 and 1996 and the Champions League in 1997.
