After all the DDoS crap over at LJ (whatever that is since I really have no idea) I am especially glad I was able to get a journal over here. Just in case. Like I said before, I have no idea what any of it means, so maybe there's nothing to worry about? ... Better to be safe than sorry. Not that I've moved any of my stuff over here yet. I don't know if I will or not. I just like knowing there's a safe(r) place to post?

Applying to university is shitttt. So many fees! So many shots to get! So many confusing things! Yet ... so many exciting courses to look forward to! Genetics. O-chem. Perception. Cell biology. Memory. Immunology & Parasitology way down the line (in a couple years-ish). *orgasm* The entire idea of going to school still freaks me out and it's quite daunting, to be honest. I hope I'm emotionally/mentally stable enough for it. The past week I haven't felt that I am. If I don't do it this year, though, I most likely won't do it at all. I know myself well enough to know that. Bio major right now. Possible chem minor. If I take psych courses and am into those as well I might change to neuroscience. We'll see how things go. My Fall semester will most likely be Genetics, o-chem, anatomy and a psych course. *crosses fingers* If all goes well. I have to make sure I get into o-chem early or I won't be able to at all.

comments

Tom Six's "The Human Centipede"

I'd heard of this on FaceBook (where I have many friends that are only internet friends - because we share similar film interests and whatnot) and was looking forward to seeing it. The title alone is reason enough to want to see this film! (At least for me :)

I love this film!

( Spoilers herein, of course. )

Allright. Those are my thoughts on the film. If you aren't squeamish, I'd recommend it. And yes, I will watch the second one when it comes out in 2011 (according to the internet). :)

comments

Srdjan Spasojevic's "A Serbian Film"

I'd heard a lot about this movie before I took it upon myself to find a place to watch it online. It sounded like something I wouldn't want to miss. Online acquaintances kept calling it "brilliant" and whatnot. Why would I want to miss out on that? :)

I was not disappointed in the least. I was very happy with the recommendation (unlike with Nacho Cerda's "Aftermath" which was a bomb - but that was only my opinion, of course).

So, here are my thoughts on "A Serbian Film."

I decided not to put what I thought in a cut because I didn't really say anything about what happened (so there aren't spoilers for those of you who still want to see the film - and no one should be terribly offended without all those details).

I loved the actors in this. They were all perfect for their parts, but I especially enjoyed Srdjan Todorovic as Milos. There is just something so intensely beautiful about his portrayal of the character. It's hard for me to describe exactly what I mean, so let me just say that he did so well that I couldn't possibly imagine anyone else in that role.

The film covers a lot of extreme territory, to put it lightly. I read reviews from people online who are self-proclaimed lovers of the extreme, yet who were pretty disturbed by the film. It is disturbing. That's part of why I liked it. I'm not saying that I condone anything I saw in this film. Of course not. I have just always been drawn to the dark side of things and enjoyed seeing that side of life. I'd say by now it's hard to really bother me, and nothing in the film really got to me that badly. It could be because I read a full synopsis before actually watching it. For me, it wasn't about what I was going to see (as one reviewer put it) but it was about how I was going to see it, how the things were actually portrayed in the film.

One thing I liked about the series of events that take place in the film (or that you see Milos remembering happening) is that it seems to start out pretty tame and then spiral out of control into a horrifying climax. It was almost like you could see something terrible coming (it would feel that way even if you didn't know the plot before you watched it).

I love when people push the envelope and I think that's what attracted me to this film.

All I can say is it's not for the faint hearted or sensitive. If violence disturbs/upsets you, it's not for you. Especially because it's not your run-of-the-mill film violence. It's way over the top. If you are looking for something extreme and well-filmed with great actors, though, I suggest this.

comments

Nacho Cerda's "Aftermath"

I just watched (most of) the short film "Aftermath" written and directed by Nacho Cerda (from 1994). It was recommended to me by an LJ user in a community I belong to under my secondary account. I'm always up for new movies and look forward to it. I have to say that I almost feel like I wasted 20 minutes of my time watching the better part of this short, though. I was disappointed. The person who recommended it seemed to think it was pretty extreme, but in my opinion it wasn't. I also don't think it was that great as a film in general.

( my opinions. spoilers, obviously. )

So, "Aftermath" is not on my list of movies to recommend to others.

(originally posted in the horrors comm over at LJ)

comments
