July is upon us! Welcome to a brand-new breed of participation we’ve cooked up in the Be A Goldfish laboratories: community posts! Community posts will encourage you to get involved: comment, respond to a poll, reblog and tag, or create a whole new post to share your opinion, make friends, and influence people. WEEK ONE: Build-A-World + Recipes & Food

Harken back to days of yore: Minecraft, The Sims, LEGO, or Lincoln Logs. Create a fanwork which engages with worldbuilding, or explore in-universe creations. Fill us in on the gaps in canon, expound upon fanon, explore fictional nonfiction, try a chatfic or social media AU, or draw inspiration from works like NECKZ ‘n THROATS, an in-universe magazine created by the Teen Wolf fandom. Week one is a great week to give fanfood a whirl, too! Try a recipe, or create one of your own. Decorate cupcakes, make a themed meal, or sip blue milk. Need more ideas? We got you.

Browse sites like Feast of Starlight, The Gluttonous Geek, InLiterature, Geeky Chef, and Geeks Who Eat, which curate a generous selection of both individual recipes and themed feasts inspired by a variety of shows, films, games, and books.
Tumblrinas, rejoice! The Nerdy Recipes index offers a vast selection, Fandom Cocktails curates themed mixed drinks, and our food tag displays the fannish food, drinks, and recipes made in rounds past and present.
Check out published fannish cookbooks like Marvel: Eat the Universe, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Recipes from Sunnydale, A Feast of Ice and Fire, or Supernatural: The Official Cookbook. We strongly recommend searching for these texts and others like them at your local library, through the Internet Archive, on the seven seas, or at secondhand shops before purchasing new at your local bookshop.
Explore fandom-specific repositories like The Cookbook of Boba Fett, official Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel recipe collections, and The Inn at the Crossroads.

We celebrate the little works around here: ficlets, drabbles, meta, zines, fanart, playlists, recipes, web weaves, gifsets, friendship bracelets, pottery, paintings, and anything and everything else you can dream up, so long as it's in the micro spirit of things. We hold commenting and creating in equal esteem and welcome both as avenues of participation!

There's no sign-ups, no check-ins, and no pressure. Participate on your own terms: post, comment, share, and celebrate as much or as little as your heart desires from 1 July to 31 August 2026. Just fill out our Entry Submission Form whenever you post a work, and follow the guidelines located in our RuleDoc for tagging and posting conventions!

T-minus: two weeks! Be A Goldfish is back in the water and ready to pull a Jaws.

In an effort to encourage weekly participation, as well as to provide structure and inspiration to those who thrive on it, we’ve prepared prompts to inspire you throughout the course of the event. Each weekly prompt will consist of both a traditional prompt and a medium, and we will provide links to inspirational and educational content to support you creatively should you choose to explore the medium. As follows:

WEEK THREE: A Moment To Discuss Our Lord and Saviour + Fanfiction
WEEK FOUR: True Blue AUs + Gifs

WEEK SIX: Pepe Silvia + Meta & Fannish Nonfiction
WEEK SEVEN: Her, Him, They, Them + Zines
WEEK EIGHT: A Little Treat + Fanvids

You may follow this schedule as rigidly or loosely as you wish: you are welcome to fulfill every prompt to the letter, to engage with just the medium or just the prompt, or to ignore them entirely. Whilst we will be sharing a prompt and a medium on a weekly basis, you are welcome to engage with them at any time and in any order. Mix and match! The world is your oyster.

T-minus: three weeks! Get your permission slips signed, kids: we’re headed to the beach! We know it can take a minute to find your commenting sea legs, so we’ve created a one-size-fits-all bingo card, new for round 3 of Be A Goldfish, to guide you on your voyage.

Round 3 Coming Soon!

That's right, we're gearing up for Round 3 (2026-B) here at Be a Goldfish! This round starts 1 July and will run until 31 August.

We've made several updates to the RuleDoc (which used to be called the FAQ and then we realized it wasn't actually a FAQ at all) so definitely go give that a read if you're thinking about jumping in.

Among those updates, we've included a link to this round's prompts which have been expanded dramatically to include both prompts and mediums as well as links to several resources, some inspiration, and some fannish history. Now is a great time to check those out and start brainstorming!

We're also introducing a one-size-fits-all comment bingo to help guide, inspire, and encourage folks on their commenting journey. Our philosophy is that you don't have to be a creator to participate in a fanwork event. Commenters, as fans of fanwork are what make fandom go round, so if you're not feeling particularly creative right now, no worries, we would still love to see you around! Like the punch cards, we offer full color and black and white versions should you decide to take a more tactile approach. You can find previews of those cards and links to their folders in the RuleDoc.

We look forward to joining you all on this voyage of creativity, passion, and love for media, fandom, and the fans that make it all happen. We're gonna be sharing some more posts this month and later throughout the round, so don't think you've heard the last of us just yet.

This round has gone swimmingly: we've had so much fun creating, commenting, and connecting with our incredible community throughout the course of the past two months. We hope you've had a blast, seen some cool shit, made some cool shit, experienced fannish bardic inspiration, and perhaps even made some friends! We know we have.
