So I investigated as best as I could. The command line installs of some Linux server distributions were undoubtedly very powerful, possibly complicated in management and installation, and beyond my technical prowess. Then I watched as influencers talked about a simple, clean and capable server that was beginning to make it's mark in the home lab market. It sounded just like what I wanted and more importantly needed. Before I get too deep into everything else, I was certainly impressed that it had its own app library that offered the tools I was looking for. I say tools, you might call them applications. First and foremost for me was the Immich application. And, while that one available program was ideal for initial plans, there were many others that hold promise, as my plans continue to expand. Yes, IceWhale is making its mark, at least it did with me and obviously thousands of others. The company's growth and continued focus on goals, is important to me, and makes be feel like I am part of a good, honorable team. Time will tell, but so far, I'm pleased with updates and support forums. As a newbie, IceWhale with its ZimaOS, is important to me. Yes No Version: 1.6.0 Rating: 8 Date: 2026-04-18 Country: United States Votes: 0 Great improvement. I love ZimaOS, easy to use and a very intuitive interface. IceWhale is ever so slowly improving their software. I run on their devices and on VM's in ProxMox no issues. It has it's quirks I wish there was more ability to manage security from users to exposed ports. The ports are not much of an issues there are plenty of tools to manage that. Users though that is more difficult. Also like CasaOS you have manage NFS in a CLI. Using CLI is not a problem but you don't know at all that NFS has been enabled unless you it has been. Overall IceWhale is improving the software slowly but hopefully surely. Was this review helpful? Yes No Version: 1.5.4 Rating: 8 Date: 2026-02-05 Votes: 0 Decent and certainly a step up from CasaOS, which was really lacking storage management options, the app store offers tons of choices of containers to fire up with minimal configuration, and the Win/Mac clients are a nice touch. It works, it's streamlined, but you will feel the quirks once you try to get it to do push things a little too far - it's no TrueNAS or Unraid here, and that's fine as long as you know what you're getting.
