Ant Flying Day
Jul. 6th, 2026 11:08 pmIt was like supposed to be our like book-group-thing this evening but only one other person turned up and like she couldn’t stay long (she’s the one with a newborn so that’s like fair enuff. But it is weird that only one of the others did like an explaining they wouldn’t make it post beforehand. Normally people are like pretty conscientious). So we went for a wander instead (and like got some milk from the corner Co-op).
We hadn’t been outside earlier in the day (we’ve been really floompy lately) so we obviously missed the main ant flying but during the evening wander there were still a few ants with wings crawling around and some wingless queens and busy-seeming workers like scurrying about.
It seems a little bit late - round here they normally fly in June but maybe ants do the whole wanting to stay indoors during a heatwave thing as humans? We’ve like read that the particular day of flying depends on temperature and air stillness and obviously we don’t get so much air stillness by the sea as most inland places….
Wondering if the queen’s wings coming off is like painful for if it’s more like losing baby teef?
Have like your local ants done flying already?
