It’s official: Justin Trudeau has purchased a home in Outremont.
The former Canadian prime minister purchased the residence on the northern flank of Mount Royal for $4.26 million, according to the sales deed. The deed was signed before a notary and registered at the Quebec land registry office on Monday.
Trudeau, who has resided in Ottawa since resigning as prime minister and leader of the Liberal Party of Canada early in 2025, announced recently he would move back to Montreal. He had served as prime minister since 2015.
Trudeau’s new residence is a two-storey single-family home with nearly 5,000 square feet of floor space and was constructed in the 1930s. The sales deed indicates he has yet to move in.
The property valuation for municipal taxes is listed as $5.99 million.
The 54-year-old was born in Ottawa during the first term of his father, Pierre Trudeau, as prime minister of Canada. The younger Trudeau attended Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf in Outremont and McGill University, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in English before obtaining a bachelor of education from the University of British Columbia.
He and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, whom he married in 2005, have three children. The couple announced they were separating in August 2023.
Trudeau has been dating U.S. singer Katy Perry since 2025, which the two confirmed on social media in December.
The sales deed lists only Trudeau as purchaser of the Outremont home.
The real estate documents state that Trudeau and Grégoire Trudeau are in the process of divorcing.
Trudeau and Grégoire Trudeau lived in Outremont during the early years of their marriage. Trudeau represented the federal riding of Papineau on Montreal Island starting in 2008 until he left politics in 2025.
