[fic] Sixty Guilders of Beads against the Stars (Dani/Nate) & [fic rec] Firebirds

Let's start with the fic rec, shall we? If you're a fan of the Marvel universe but you hated Avengers versus X-men, or even if you didn't hate it, but you'd have liked to have seen a different take on it, do I have a story for you.

And then, the fic. Okay, yes, there's a relationship between them. See, aliciam did an amazing thing. She put my girl Dani in a pivotal place in the story. If that hadn't been exciting enough, she did me the favor of talking it through with me. Then something pretty cool happened (for me, anyway) and she asked me to tell her what happened with Dani next for her birthday. This is that story.

State of the Me

silensy and I are moving cross-country at the beginning of March. The combination of packing-anxiety and excitement aren’t kind to my RP-brain. I’m around, but keeping my threads limited to what I can commit to tagging at least once a day; that’s also why I made the drops I did, even though I really wasn’t finished with the characters.

State of the Muse

Kate Freelander, Sanctuary: girlsolo

Voice strength: rock-solid.

Likelihood of drop: zero.

Health

Physical: chronically slightly sleep-deprived, but otherwise fine.

Psychological/Emotional: sane, with your usual assortment of daddy issues, commitment issues, and abandonment issues. The commitment issues and abandonment issues are getting a workout from Lilo and Neal and all of the departures, but she’s getting stronger and more capable of weathering them again.

Relationship status

Familial: has finally accepted the idea that Lilo’s her kid and not just someone she’s looking out for. This is, undeniably, her most important relationship. She’s working very hard at being a better parent than either of hers were, and mostly succeeding.

Romantic: went from dragging her feet about commitment to all-in with Neal Caffrey over New Year’s in an in-progress log. Neither of them’s saying the L word, and we’re not rushing them toward it, but exclusivity’s definitely happened on both sides.

Upcoming

EP: maybe in April after I’ve settled in with her and Lilo feeding “Pudge II” his peanut butter sandwich from her NDPD gift.

Valentine’s Day: Neal’s getting hit with truth, so I’m leaving Kate be.

Item: either her bug supervillain suit or her memory box, probably toward June.

Bella’s pregnancy: something I’d like her to be present for/participate in.

Threads

Ongoing: thread of all the feelings with Neal.

Wanted: Steve McGarrett - catching up stuff; Lilo - memorial on the beach; Karen F. - sudden motherhood.

Future

None really. I can barely handle what I have. Dani Moonstar’s always on the list, and if I have more time toward summer, she might show up. Her showing up or not would probably be strongly impacted by the presence of a current canon Nate Grey.

I'm writing again. Blame antiochene and silensy this time. I doubt any of the people who followed me for Supernatural, Torchwood, or Sanctuary especially care, but if you're Marvel readers, you might.

Tumblr showed me Nate flirting with Dani, and Clarice and Dani mocking him, then the clusterfuck that is AvX happened, New Mutants ended (again), and somehow Wanda's forgiven. This is me, taking the view from the sidelines, to ask the Cheyenne girl what she thinks of the Emperor's New Clothes. This is also me, playing with fairy tale, trying to make sense of Dani's journey and where Nate Grey fits into it.

[Fic Snippet] lose what I got keep what I find (Sanctuary, Kate and people)

So, I've had this ongoing problem with the Kate/Garris storyline in that...I don't like Garris. Unlike Erika who I've loved from her first minutes onscreen and Abby who got enough screentime and development for me to actually figure out what Will sees in her, even if I don't like the ship, it was like they couldn't have given less thought to Garris. One minute Kate's trying to stab him and the next she's feeling up his hearts. And, I get it, I do, Kate got taken by surprise by someone being sweet to her and treating her like a woman instead of a pal, he didn't know her history and only knew her, etc. I can explain it, but I couldn't ship it.

But then I had to write it for this epic fic of Kate, Will and baby!Magnus, and something weeeeeeiiiiiiird happened. Have some fic-snippet.

what I like: I explained Garris to myself and made him enough of a character that I don't feel dumb saying Kate's in love with him. Also that Callie is letting me play in her sandbox.
what I don't like: see above. Also, I'm not convinced of some of Kate's inner monologue. She doesn't flow as easily for me as Will, especially not when she's not in love with either Declan or Will.

[Sanctuary] Fic: untitled post SfN Will and Kate

So ceilidh started a post SfN fic for Will and Kate that has Pavorverse's Magnus Zimmerman showing up through a crack in the worlds. She's graciously letting me write the Kate POV version of this fic. It's probably going to be mammoth, but I really needed to do something with post-SfN Will and Abby, and Kate and Garris, and my TR Kate has SO many issues about baby!Magnus that this is a great vehicle.
