So, I tried two LJ fic exchanges over the holidays, and I'm generally pleased with the results:

For trekprfexchange, I received the wonderful "Behind Closed Doors" by viklikesfic, who gave herself away too easily in the notes. *g* It's all my favorites -- Yelchin/Pine, Hemsworth/Yelchin/Greenwood, implied Greenwood/Pine -- in one story with adorable dominant!Anton. Gotta love that! I wrote "Making an Exception" for azewewish, a pre-slash Hemsworth/Urban that I'm pretty proud of. They didn't actually have sex, but they enjoyed themselves.

Then, over in happy_trekmas, I wrote "Fate Doesn't Play by the Rules" for celandineb, in which George Kirk lives and has a thing for Christopher Pike. More might come of this. I received "Paying The Theft", which is a good read.

Go. Read. Comment. Let me know if I'm wasting my time. *g*

In other news, I'm excited to be doing au_bigbang with padawanhilary. We're tackling a Trek reboot AU that makes George Kirk Jr. a Starfleet cadet contemporary of Pavel Chekov and tackles the question "what if Jim Kirk and his brother were both cadets?" Keep an eye out.

comments

I was reading a story this morning that has Chekov being raised in a devout Russian Orthodox family. However, a lot of canon-making credence has been given to the fact the two actors who've portrayed Chekov have a Jewish heritage. There's a big difference between Eastern Orthodox and Jewish.

It got me to thinking, so I did a Google and couldn't find anything that specifically addressed religion. Not even in Memory-Alpha.

Why do I care? I'm not sure. Anyone have specific references to what might be canon answers?

comments

Okay, I never had much use for Miley Cyrus to start, but I just lost what little there was, including any idea she actually has a brain. She has deleted her Twitter account because Liam wanted her to. Or so says the rumour mill.

Let's see. You're a megastar with like 2 million followers and you pitch a hissy fit because you're the center of attention and everyone's blogging about you. Oh, right, the 19-year-old boyfriend who doesn't have a Twitter account thinks you should delete yours. Why? Because he's an idiot who up until six months ago was sanding floors.

He rates more than all the fans paying good money to support you, hon? You really are redneck stupid. Hold back. Don't tweet your whole life. But realize it's the PR outlet of the moment. And, for god's sake, tell Liam to get a damned Twitter account himself. Him and that idiot older brother.

Wonder how Daddy's taking it?

This tongue-in-cheek mini-rant was brought to you by the letter F and the number 2.
Okay, so I'm scrolling through the Establishment friends list, which is how I read the community, and I note (taking count, of course), that of the 25 entries showing at 1:39 a.m. ET, 11 are Trek pups and of those, 8 are Chris and Anton posts.

Of course, that feeds into my paranoia about people getting pissed that I'm posting too much for Chris, that he's just the new shiny. But then I started thinking about why there's so much activity for Chris (and, by extension, Anton). A large part of it, IMO, is the way Chris interacts with his world. He's very much in tune with social networking, with sending text messages and making Twitter updates. This allows for short-burst posts, doesn't require playing out a log. He is the most vocal of the muses in my head, always has something to say. Believe it or not, I sit on him a lot to not post.

Yes, Chris is the new shiny. What does that mean?

Chris has rubbed off on other Est muses. Harry is responding to public posts, something he hasn't done in a long time. So is Helena. Julian's still random. He's prompted AUs. He hasn't had much impact on the Citadel boys. There a whole nother matter.

A new shiny isn't why other pups don't get played as fast and furious. It's the pups. Social networking isn't really the way the other Est pups operate. None of them are clamoring in my head to send texts. Bruce even has issues responding to them, but he does because of the Trek circle he runs in.

So, does that create a negative impact? Pup posting too much, alienating readers? Or does nobody really care? I haven't figured that one out yet.

Oh, random aside: The new icon is made from a photo of Chris's wrist. Love the jelly bracelets. *g*

comments

Okay, so AMC was doing a mini Mel Brooks marathon tonight, "Young Frankenstein" and "History of the World Part 1," and Liza had never seen either one of them. I subjected her to them to avoid having to watch "Project Runway."

It was so much fun. First off, she realizes that it's Gene Wilder in YF, and she loves his Willy Wonka. Better than Johnny Depp's, she informs me. I did not know that. Then she's laughing herself silly at the "Puttin' on the Ritz" number and Madeline Kahn's Bride of Frankenstein moment.

So it finishes and HOTW comes on. "Oh, mom, no." Ha! The 15yo picks up on the fact it's nothing but a series of sexual innuendos and she's cracking up. The Spanish Inquisition scene? "It's like Monty Python." Uh, yeah.

Best moment? The Last Supper scene, where I'm going "uh, hon, do you know who Jesus is?" She's looking and looking and is like, "I should." I go, "he's Father." If you don't get the "Hellboy" reference, that's cool, but she was beside herself realizing that John Hurt was both. She's obsessed with "Hellboy," specifically the "Golden Army" sequel. She puts it on every night to fall asleep to. Why? Two words. Prince Nuada. Yeah, she likes Ron Perlman, too. My favorite "H2" moment? Barry Manilow music sounding good.

So, great sharing night had by mommy and baby girl.

comments

What is so hard about editing your fic before you post it?

Gods, people, it's your post and you're going to look stupid if you can't tell the difference. And learn that it's court martial, not marshal.

I know it may seem silly to come people, but those little things just ruin an otherwise good fic.

comments

It makes no sense that more would make life easier, but that's the case with my new Est pups. They've re-energized me for other tagging. I couldn't decide between the two -- Bruce Greenwood and Chris Hemsworth -- so I picked up both. There's almost a complete set of Star Trek crew over there now. Yay!

comments
