Allied for Marine Wildlife

About us

We are allied for marine wildlife and our mission is to explore, enable, and inspire conservation action for threatened marine wildlife and their critical habitats with dependent human communities. Through our work, we improve the understanding and conservation of threatened marine species - such as sharks, rays, sea turtles and large predatory fish - and their habitats. We work to mitigate threats from fisheries, development and trade to deliver win-win strategies and outcomes with partner stakeholders. To do this, we monitor threatened species in key sites such as Marine Protected Areas while we train and primarily engage local fishermen, students and communities. We transform the information into outreach, education, conservation action that underpins supportive legislation and catalyses attitudinal and behavioral changes towards the threatened species to better secure their future. #MarineConservation #MPA #marinemegafauna #coralreefs #mangroves #seagrasses #smallscalefisheries

  • 🎉𝟏𝟐 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐄𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠. 🌊🦈 Snappers are spawning, sharks and rays are preparing to give birth, and sea turtles are returning to nest along Caribbean shores. It’s a season of renewal—and a moment to celebrate 12 years of MarAlliance. What began as a bold vision to restore threatened marine wildlife and their habitats—together with the communities who depend on them—has grown into a powerful force for conservation across Belize, Cabo Verde, Honduras, Panama, and Mexico. Through science, collaboration, and community, we’ve uncovered critical insights into the lives of sharks, rays, and other marine species, shaping conservation action and informing policies that protect them. By working alongside communities, students, and local leaders, we’ve co-created knowledge, built innovative tools, and strengthened the connection between people and the sea. Because of this collective effort, we are beginning to see signs of progress—shifts in behavior, stronger stewardship, and even early signals of recovery for some species. But this is only the beginning. The urgency has never been greater—and the future of our oceans depends on what we do next. ✨Be part of our next chapter. • On Women and Girls in Science Day, we highlight the dedication, curiosity, and courage of some of the women in our team who are shaping the future of marine conservation. They demonstrate that resilience, passion, and belief in oneself can open new paths in science, conservation, and STEM. As Daneira Brown, Community Officer from Guna Yala in Panama, reminds us: "To everyone who dreams of science and conservation—especially Indigenous women—I encourage you to trust in yourselves and in your abilities. Our connection to nature and the knowledge that comes from our land are valuable and can contribute greatly to science and conservation." We hope their experiences inspire the next generation of changemakers. Together, we can protect our oceans and create a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
