Loved A LONG WINTER. Andrew Haigh is a master of fine-grained storytelling that digs deep emotionally, with Fred Hechinger, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Caitríona Balfe and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai all locked onto his wavelength. A haunting adaptation of the Colm Tóibín story. Opens Dec. 4.
James Gray’s almost operatic crime thriller PAPER TIGER is one of the year’s best, opening @TheNYFF Friday ahead of its Nov. 13 release. Robbed of the Palme d’Or in Cannes.
Fine work from Daisy Edgar-Jones and George MacKay distinguishes this pensive take on Jane Austen's SENSE AND SENSIBILITY but it can't escape the long shadow of Ang Lee and Emma Thompson's captivating 1995 film in either humor or heart. My @THR review.
