Apple

Founded in 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne, Apple is best known for making some of the world’s most ubiquitous consumer devices, software, and services: the iPhone, iPad, iMac and MacBook computers, Apple TV, Apple Watch, iOS, iCloud, iTunes, Apple Music, Apple Pay, and many more. Led by CEO Tim Cook since 2011, Apple is one of the largest technology companies in the world alongside Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Facebook.

Tim Cook knows what Pikachu is!

I certainly didn’t expect one of Cook’s final tweets as Apple’s CEO to star Pikachu. Wonder what his favorite Pokémon game is.

Apple is upgrading some recent Mac Mini M4 orders to M6 or M5 Pro versions for free.

Usually buying new hardware ahead of a revision is a bad thing, but some Mac Mini orders are getting a free upgrade as a result, probably due to RAM and other component shortages.

Some have reported M6 upgrades, while this poster on Reddit is now receiving an M5 Pro. The only downside? While some delivery dates have moved up, MacRumors points out that at least one student says theirs will now ship several weeks later.

Still a power bottom.

Apple made the slightly controversial decision to put the power button on the bottom of the M4 Mac Mini, and that’s still the case on the newly announced M6 and M5 Pro models.

If you find that irksome, a workaround on macOS 26.5 and later is to set your Mac to always automatically turn on when it receives power — handy after a power outage.

Here comes the new Mac mini.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple’s little desktop computer — which has grown scarce due to its popularity as a local AI host — “will debut as soon as the coming days.” It could feature both M5 and new M6 processors.

More about Apple’s fall iPhone launch plans, and that massive AirPods leak.

In his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman muses about how far Apple might go with price hikes for new iPhones, without much of an answer yet, as well as how the macOS Tahoe 26.7 RC revealed camera-equipped AirPods by accidentally merging an internal branch.

He also mentions that the long-rumored foldable has impressed people with the “how it fits in a pocket, the feel and durability of the advanced hinge mechanism, and the new iPad-like app layouts that take advantage of the larger internal display,” despite lacking a telephoto camera lens.

Apple Music is getting AI labels ‘later this year.’

That’s according to an email seen by The Hollywood Reporter. They’re seemingly visible versions of the voluntary “Transparency Tags” that Apple Music introduced in March. Apple doesn’t say how it will enforce the labels, but it did clarify what they’ll apply to:

“Content providers will be required to include AI Transparency Tags in any instance where AI was used to create a material portion of the content, including tracks that are AI platform generated.

Now ChatGPT connects directly to Apple Messages.

With the Apple Messages plugin, ChatGPT on Mac can “Search messages, catch up on conversations, draft and send replies,” OpenAI says. Here’s a video showing how it works.

Legendary designer Susan Kare shares more insights about her work on the original Macintosh.

Y Combinator has finally posted a video of Kare’s 50-minute talk at last month’s Startup School 2026 event. The renowned designer shares more stories about the process of creating the original Macintosh’s icons, the command key symbol that’s still in use today, and the Chicago font that Apple revived for the early iPods.

Apple reportedly won’t launch AirPods with cameras until next year.

AirPods with cameras showed up in a video found in a release candidate of the upcoming macOS Tahoe 26.7 update, but Bloomberg reports that the headphones aren’t in the cards for 2026.

Epic calls Apple’s new EU rates “junk fees.”

The company responded to Apple’s new App Store policies in a post on X, claiming the updated fees “do nothing to open up the mobile app ecosystem to competition” and “deliberately violate” the EU’s Digital Markets Act.

Honestly I’d take the PowerBook Duo.

The pricing spread on items in the new early Apple / Steve Jobs auction is wild. A pair of signed Steve Jobs business cards is going for six figures, and the disparity in Apple devices is distinctly tilted towards the modern era, as seen here.

Did your iPhone recieve an ‘Apple Threat Notification’?

You’re not alone — Apple told TechCrunch that it sent the notifications on Thursday to users in 110 countries who it suspects have been targeted by mercenary spyware. Apple has a new support page with guidance on how targets can best protect their devices against such attacks, which have “historically been associated with state actors.”

Apple reportedly wants to use content from publishers to make Siri better at the news.

The company working on deals that would let Siri to lean on publisher content for news and information, The Wall Street Journal reports. Apple has apparently proposed a plan where publishers would get paid when content is actually used.

Apple updated the Siri app icon in its latest iOS 27 developer beta.

Now, it’s a glassier orb. I like it.

With beta 5, Apple also tweaked the Safari, Preview, Settings, and Remote app icons, according to 9to5Mac. I grabbed a screenshot of the new icons — what do you think?

The boss of Apple Pay is retiring.

Jennifer Bailey will be leaving Apple in October, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports. That means she’ll be leaving shortly after incoming CEO John Ternus takes over on September 1st.

In a memo to staff included in Gurman’s article, SVP of services Eddy Cue said that a succession plan will be announced before Bailey departs.

‘We have Formula 1 at home.’

ESPN lost Formula 1 rights last year, when Apple spent big to get the rights for Apple TV. Now, Disney is replacing F1 with… Formula E, the all-electric (and increasingly Formula 1-ish) racing series, starting this December on Disney Plus and ESPN Plus. Shockingly, this deal might come with less talk about battery management than whatever’s happening with F1.

Gurman says the glass iPhone is still on track.

An analyst report yesterday claimed Apple had canceled plans for an all-glass iPhone to mark its phone’s 20th anniversary. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman disagrees. He says the phone is still due to launch in 2027, it just won’t be all glass, with a slim metal frame connecting the two curved glass panels.

Apple is considering a screen-free wearable.

With the success of Whoop and other screen-free fitness bands like the Fitbit Air, Polar Loop, and Helio Strap, it’s not a surprise that the company is weighing its options. But nothing is set in stone yet. According to Mark Gurman:

The company is considering new devices with no displays, as well as different types of screens and various sizes. While unlikely to hit the market, round screens have even been considered. I’m told the work also includes potentially adding premium models beyond the Ultra and Hermès variants. On the lower end, Apple is considering more affordable concepts besides the current SE model.
