Despite getting some decent night’s sleep over the weekend, I’m still much lower on sleep than I’d like to be. But I have a four day weekend coming up (Friday July 3d off since the Fourth of July is a Saturday this year, and then we have a company shutdown day on Monday). Meanwhile, I've been burning what few brains cells I have functioning on stuff at work.

I had the best sleep score I’ve had in over a week last night. And boy did I desperately need a good night’s sleep. According to FitBit, I’ve had the worst sleep EVER the past week. And I’ve been feeling like crap all week. Pretty much all of my energy has gone into work, and even then I’ve bailed early a couple of times because I just couldn’t brain anymore.

At one point when Anna was fostering Grayson, she called my sister in a panic and tried to send him back to her. My sister found another foster, and after a week, Anna wanted him back. I suspect if he was keeping her up at night the way he has been keeping me up, she had a meltdown due to lack of sleep. And then once she had some sleep, she wanted him back because he really is quite the sweetie when he’s not being a brat.

I’ve been sleeping with an eye mask since the 18th, and with my new Loop earplugs for the past couple of nights since they arrived in the mail. That helps, but not when I wake up to pee and disturb Grayson and he thinks it’s middle of the night playtime and wants to bite me if I don’t play with him. I”m trying not to let him get used to my hands and feet being playthings. We bite toys, not people.

Anywhoo, this morning he let me sleep in. Thankfully. And then he surprised me again, because he climbed on top of me and hung out for morning cuddles. That did NOT turn into biting and playing. He just let me pet him, and slept on my chest/stomach for quite some time. I did get a face wash, but that’s because I let him get too close to my face and he just can’t resist.

We just seem to alternate between mad little Wild Thing and adorable sweet boy. I’m hoping that as he gets older he’ll grow out of the craziness. In the meantime, I've put time slots for "Play with the kitty" into my calendar this week, because clearly I'm falling down on the job of playing with him enough to wear him out.

There was a recent update to an Ask a Manager post from someone who (probably) worked in financial services. At any rate, in a business where new hires were expected to work 100 hours a week for a $275k-$200k salary. But the new hires were quitting before they got through their two year training period.

In the update the OP mentioned that one of the things that had changed since 2021 was that labor no longer has the upper hand the way it did when they originally wrote in. And also in the past several years we've seen the arrival of AI.

I think there is a very real probability that the post-Covid experience played a role in senior services executives concluding that AI should replace a significant portion of the entry-level workforce. Then again, knowing my industry, despite the tenor of apprenticeship, ultimately we would likely have chosen the robot slaves over the university graduates.
