Who else is trying out imzy? Let me know how to find you there. Also I have a few invites if anyone wants one. Edited to say that comments are screened for anyone who wants to leave me their email so that I can send the invite.

Shows I'm currently watching:
Defiance. For some reason I never paid any attention to this show. I think because it's a Syfy original, and I was too annoyed with Syfy at the time. I had no idea who was in it. And then I met Tony Curran, Jaime Murray and Jesse Rath at Shore Leave a couple weeks ago, and found them all so delightful that the husband and I started watching it right away. It's fantastic! I love the backstory - which I read on Wikipedia. I'm about to finish S1 and they still haven't explained all of the details of the backstory on the show. I find that an interesting choice, and I assume it will all be revealed eventually...right?

Hannibal. I will follow this through to whatever end there is, but for some reason I'm not enjoying it quite as much as I used to. Did the violence get to be too much, too often? I don't know. It got very intense there for a while. But I love Mads and Hugh and wish the whole show was nothing but conversations with Hannibal and Will.

Killjoys. I didn't really expect much, but I like Aaron Ashmore, so I gave it a chance. It's actually pretty good, and I find myself being drawn into the characters more and more with every episode. I hope it gets a second season.

Teen Wolf. Still watching, but getting really annoyed. There used to be humor. It's just no fun anymore.

Twin Peaks. Nope, I somehow escaped the whole Laura Palmer thing back in the day. Since it looks like it will be (maybe?) making a reappearance at some point, I've just started watching the original. So far I'm finding it quirky and odd, but I do love a good murder mystery, so yay!

Other things I watched this year that I enjoyed:
Game of Thrones, iZombie, Wayward Pines, Daredevil

Mom

Some of you might remember a little over a year ago when I posted about my adorable Mom, and what a huge Merlin fan she was. She celebrated her 92nd birthday in March with a big party that she planned herself. Even at that grand age she was super healthy, not even on any type of medication. I fully expected her to live to be 100. And then in April she was diagnosed with cancer. Multiple Myeloma. It was in her bone marrow, making holes in her ribs, and spreading very fast. She died on June 25th. The loss is so huge I can't quite get my head around it.

So that's why I haven't been around here lately. Been a bit preoccupied. Time now to begin to pick myself up and get on with life. That's what would make Mamma happy.

This prompts many questions in my brain. Where was he going? What is he reading? Does he do this often? And why do things like this never happen to me? ;)

Hello, Live Journal. How have you been? I'm sorry I spend so much time actively avoiding you these days. But you make me kinda sad. You aren't what you used to be, and I'm not who I used to be, and I don't really know what to do with you any more. So let's just talk about where we are now for a bit, okay?

Shows I'm still into: Hannibal, Agents of Shield, Supernatural, Teen Wolf, Arrow, Elementary, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Once Upon a Time. Also watching: Musketeers, Penny Dreadful, Castle, NCIS, CSI, Criminal Minds, Mentalist. Also Fargo, but not actually enjoying it very much.

As for movies and where my heart currently lies - I have completely fallen under the spell of the lovely Tom Hiddleston, and can't seem to get enough of him. Last night I watched The Deep Blue Sea, which is beautifully shot if not exactly a feel good piece. Tom is wonderful, even if his character is a complete dick. Rachel Weisz is superb. I didn't much care for her character either, although I could sympathize with her. I've experienced that kind of all-encompassing, feels-like-you're-drowning-in-it love, and it can be both amazing and horrible.

I needed a palette cleanser after, so I watched the most adorable short in the history of ever called "Friend Request Pending" staring Judi Dench. If you haven't seen it, do go look it up. Bonus points for the wee Hiddles cameo that had me all aflutter. ;) Here's a version with subtitles that's currently on youtube:

And can we talk about "Only Lovers Left Alive" for a minute? OMG. This movie pushed all my buttons. If you haven't seen it, look: http://therealbeeej.tumblr.com/post/85883385538

Also, here is a wonderfully thoughtful and intelligent interview with Tom on his role in the movie with bonus Loki discussion at the end. :)

So....who's still here? And what are you into these days?

I get a daily email listing from BookBub highlighting free books available from amazon.com for Kindle. There are always several romances that I generally pass on by, but this one....this just screams to be a Merlin fic! Somebody should write it for me. I have a birthday coming up.... :)

I totally fell off the world during the holidays. Sorry about that. I never even did a proper Christmas mail post. Suffice it to say, I received many lovely cards that made me very happy, so thank you [livejournal.com profile] sireesanwar, [livejournal.com profile] elistaire,[livejournal.com profile] kimberlyfdr,[livejournal.com profile] bethcarielle,[livejournal.com profile] talitha78,[livejournal.com profile] vertigo66,[livejournal.com profile] mahaliem,[livejournal.com profile] bittermint,[livejournal.com profile] kronette,[livejournal.com profile] pattyfeidt,[livejournal.com profile] noria, and [livejournal.com profile] loreley_se.

Now let me tell you about my fabulous, fangirly week in London! I flew out the night of January 3rd, and while I had been happy to have booked a seat in Virgin's premium economy, a nice flight attendant came up just as I was settling in and invited me to come sit in upper class! I had never flown first class before, and I kept expecting someone to tell me it was a mistake, and I had to go back. *g* But nope, I had a super cool little cubicle all to myself, where I was given wine and cocktails, excellent food and a bed where I was able to get some really good sleep. Best flight, ever.

Once in London, I stayed with [livejournal.com profile] jhava and her kitties for the week. There was shopping in Camden, which is my new favorite place in London. There was hilarious gay panto at the Above the Stag Theater with [livejournal.com profile] jhava and [livejournal.com profile] bigtitch followed by Indian food in a restaurant with double-decker booths.

Tuesday and Thursday [livejournal.com profile] jhava and I went to see Mojo, which is excellent of course. I really liked it a lot. Colin is fantastic, Ben is fascinating, Rupert made me LOL and Daniel Mays is brilliant. I'm sure by now you've all heard about the Skinny/Baby/Jukebox scene. I've actually found a couple of photos that somebody apparently snapped during the play - not me! I would never! But I've put them under a cut below just so you can get a wee taste. The third picture I did take. It's of the curtain from my seat in the second row. If you look closely, you'll see said jukebox through the curtain, so you'll know just how close I was to Colin's legs. :)

On Wednesday, we met [livejournal.com profile] evildrem for lunch. She was going to see Matt Smith in American Psycho: the Musical, and was able to snag me a ticket! So not only did I get to see Colin in his undies, but I also got to see Matt in his undies. :D I really couldn't imagine what to think about this play, but I honestly liked it a lot, too. Completely bizarre! But in a good way! During intermission, I was kinda stuck in a corner, so I stayed put. [livejournal.com profile] evildrem popped out and got us programs, and when she came back and handed it to me she says, "apparently Bradley James is here!" Me: "WHAT?" I spent the next several minutes scanning the audience, and YES! There he was, pretty much dead center in the audience, with Tom Hopper next to him! GUYS. MY LUCK THAT WEEK WILL PROBABLY NEVER BE TOPPED.

Oh! Also, I had lunch here. ) :D

And Happy Birthday Colin! I'll see you next week! :D

[livejournal.com profile] selannia asked two things:

"would you rather eat a bowl of deep fried bugs or watch six hours of Barney episodes in one go."

Barney. Because bugs creep me out even more than Barney does.

"in the next Superman movie, we will have Batman. If the movie includes the character, who would be your dream actor to portray Lex Luthor?"

Oh.....dear. I hate to be obvious, but Michael Rosenbaum will always be my Lex. Honestly, I tried to come up with someone else, but this is where my brain automatically goes, and everyone else just pales in comparison. Rosey played Lex so well. He brought a depth and understanding into what made Lex the ruthless megalomaniac that he became. His story is tragic and unfortunate, and it made him crazy. Once upon a time Clark could have healed him. But he didn't. I will always believe that what Lex turned into was all Clark's fault.

Also, Rosey as Lex was just dead sexy. :)

[livejournal.com profile] selannia: Shag. Marry . Cliff: Ichabod Crane, Rick Castle, Captain Hook.

Heh. Well. I have actually spent some time thinking about this. What can I say, pondering problems like this during my commute to and from the office is how I stay sane. ;)

Cliff: Ichabod. I'm so sorry. I think he's great, really. He's clever and beautiful and kind, and if I ever get to see him in a nice pair of jeans I might have to change my mind. But I couldn't marry him. Whether or not she's actually dead, Katrina is still very much his wife, and I wouldn't want a witch with her skills mad at me. As for a shag...I don't think Ichabod is much into shagging just for fun. And even if he was, he's kinda out of practice. ;)

Shag: Captain Hook. Because, Pirate! Tall, dark & handsome + pirate tells me he's probably pretty good at shagging. And while he's definitely a scallywag with heart, he would get the whole shagging for fun thing, so I wouldn't have to worry about any icky feelings getting in the way.

Marry: Castle. Absofuckinglutely. I love everything about Rick Castle. He's clever, fun, light-hearted, deeply caring, and believes in living life to the fullest. And he's a wildly successful author (of the type of book I love to read, even) who can afford to keep me in the manner to which I would very quickly become accustomed to. :D Bonus: the sex would be frequent and awesome. :D :D
beeej: (Merlin thinking)
Yeah, I know. I need to catch up again. The holidays, work, and old age have been kicking my butt.

Now, where was I?

[livejournal.com profile] gryphonrhi asked for "Crossovers you want to see. (Hell, leave character mixes and prompts; maybe people will write you presents?)"

I don't often wish for crossovers, to be honest. When presented with them, I generally find them fun and occasionally awesome, though. Sometimes I don't much want my people from show A getting involved in show B. I don't know why this is....maybe because sometimes the pairings get mixed up, and as an OTP girl, I just don't want that. Or because even within fandoms built on fantasy and/or science fiction, said crossover is really not plausible.

Sometimes though, it really, really works. And when that happens, I love it with the passion of a thousand burning suns.

My favorite cross-over of all time was especially clever, and plausible, because it used an actual actor cross-over. Endless Midnights blends Merlin and Doctor Who so beautifully. The same idea later presented in this series of images.

Then there was this vid, that brilliantly merged Merlin with the existing Merlin story arc in SG1. And more recently that fantastic Doctor Who/Sherlock vid that's been posted everywhere. I loved those very muchly. :)

Having said all that, a cross-over that I would really like to see is Arrow and Smallville - Let's forget about the Oliver Queen who was featured earlier in SV, and exchange him for the Oliver Queen from Arrow. I'd love to see a story where he interacts with Lex and Clark.

[livejournal.com profile] pat_t asked me, "If you were throwing a party, which characters from Highlander, Sherlock and Supernatural would you invite?"

Highlander: Methos
Sherlock: Sherlock
Supernatural: Castiel

Because seriously, can you imagine the dinner conversation? I'd never get a word in edgewise, but it would be FASCINATING.
beeej: (Merlin thinking)
[livejournal.com profile] selannia asked, "who is your favorite villain/bad guy?"

Ooooh. That's hard. There are SO MANY. And they're all AWESOME. Crowley. The Master. Kronos. Lex. Boyd. Moriarty. So many choices. But right now my heart belongs to Loki. He's so damanged. And totally badass. He enjoys being badass, is positively gleeful about it. But he's not heartless at all, really. He actually feels very deeply. There's a vulnerable streak a mile wide that he tries hard to hide, and he hates it, so he compensates by being an even bigger badass. The cherry on top is that he's completely gorgeous and sexy as hell. He is literally all my favorite things rolled up in one. Can I have him for Christmas? :)
