Welcome to darkfic, the Dreamwidth community for fans of dark fiction!
What is darkfic?
Darkfic is a term that refers to fictional works that primarily have bleak, horrific, miserable, sadistic, grim, or otherwise dark content or themes. While generally used to refer to fanfiction, the word darkfic can also be applied to original fiction.
This community allows not only dark fanfic but all works that could be considered darkfic and posts related to them -- both original fictional material that can be considered dark (books, original stories, movies, television shows, etc), dark fanworks (fanfiction, fanart, etc), and general posts related to dark fictional content.
If it's darkfic itself or you think it's something darkfic fans would like to see/talk about, feel free to post it in the community.
The community rules are as follows:
- You must be 18+ to be a member of this community. Users under 18 are not allowed to join.
- All works featuring fictional characters and any ships involving them are allowed here. Yes, even "bad ships". Yes, even "abusive ships". Yes, even that ship.
- All kinds of darkfic content is allowed here as long as it is not against the Dreamwidth TOS.
- This is a shame-free community that upholds the basic tenets of decent fandom behavior: don't like don't read, ship and let ship, and your kink is not my kink and that's okay. Abusive behavior towards others for the fiction they enjoy over there is not going to be tolerated here. Attacking people for their ships, their kinks, or the fiction they enjoy is not going to be tolerated here.
- Properly tag all your posts. See below for information on tagging.
- Put particularly graphic content under a cut. This especially applies to graphic artworks. Please put these things under a 'read more' and provide adequate content warnings/descriptions of the content above the read more so people know what they're about to click to view (or they can avoid clicking if it isn't for them).
- Civil discussion is fine, harassment and hate speech are not. There's a difference between having an open discourse with other users and Discourse™ the likes of which tumblr enjoys. Be decent to other people even if they like things you don't like or have opinions you disagree with. Please just follow the golden rule and treat others how you'd want to be treated.
- And this is not a rule, but a suggestion: have fun.
On Tagging:
- Fandoms should be tagged as fandom: ____ ; if a fandom is known by multiple names, please use whichever name is most commonly used or tag with both. In the case of your own original work, you may tag as fandom: work name but please also tag as fandom: original fiction or fandom: original artwork
- Romantic/sexual pairings should be tagged as ship: character x character with the character names in alphabetical order (example: a work about characters Anne and Bob would be tagged ship: anne x bob because A comes before B). If a ship is known by a specific name (such as reylo, kylux, spuffy, etc), you may also tag with ship: ship name
- Platonic pairings should be tagged as ship: character & character, also with the names in alphabetical order.
- Meta posts should be tagged as meta.
- Posts posing questions to other users, including asking for recommendations or advice on writing or anything else, should be tagged as discussions.
- Tag any specific themes in your posts as you think is necessary. This includes content warnings (whump, rape/non-con, gore, etc), tropes that may be used in your post (arranged marriage, soulmate identifying marks, etc), and anything else that you think users may want to search by.
