I'm currently re-reading Soul Music (I never get tired of Terry Pratchett books) and I had forgotten how many references there are to bands/songs that I've never heard of. It feels like I'm missing out on a lot of the jokes.
Aside from that I think it is one of my favourite of the Discworld novels - I really like the conecept of music being alive and able to influence people, and Susan issuch a great character.

However after this I am determined to read something that I haven't read before - perhaps a classic of some kind? I've been meaning to actually read a Dickens novel at some point...

After all of my complaints about US remakes of British tv programs, I did eventually watch the first episode of the new version of Being Human (I don't want to become one of those people who complain about things that they know nothing about...). I have to admit that it was a decent show, I would probably have really enjoyed it if I hadn't seen the original, but I won't be watching it again, it would probably get weirdly confusing trying to watch that and the third series of the UK version at the same time!

Speaking of which, I have literally just watched the first episode. The entire cast have moved from Bristol to Barry Island which among other things appears to mean that someone from the cast of Torchwood is going to show up every week (today we had Kai Owen and next week will feature the actor who played John Ellis in Out of Time). After this episode, I'm left with the slightly disturbing idea that whenever Gwen was working late, Rhys was attending some kind of weird car park sex club...

Why?

It seems that this month not one, not two but three of the the new tv shows being broadcast in the US are remakes of existing UK programs (Skins, Being Human and Shameless if you're interested). It appears from an (admittedly very quick) look at the imdb pages of these shows that they've hired actors that look similar to the original cast and even shot promotional photos that are near identical to the originals. Why they do this is incomprehensible to me, is it really so difficult for the American public to watch British shows?

Anyway rant over, I had posted anything for a while and since I had to go back to work today, now seemed as good a time as any.

Snow

Snow! In November!

That's pretty much all I have to say actually, although snow in November is pretty much a point in an of itself, apparently this is the coldest November in the UK on record. The snow is still in the 'makes everything beautiful' stage (as opposed to the 'horrible slush' stage which I'm sure will come along at some point) and I have seen some great snow sculptures today, including a horse and an igloo!

So I've just got back from seeing the new Harry Potter film and am feeling very awake and ridiculously overexcited still so I thought I'd post my thoughts about it now and get it all out of my system a bit.
Spoilers under the cut, although if you've read the book I don't think that there is much you can be told that will ruin the movie:

Yesterday I finally got round to watching the end of series 2 of Mad Men. I was planning to post my thoughts about it here, but I'm not sure if I have anything particularly interesting to say yet. I sometimes feel as if I'm missing the point of a lot of it. The motivations of some of the characters (particularly Don and Betty) are a complete mystery to me. It does continue to look amazing though.

In other news, due to some bizarre special offer, an extra large pizza is exactly the same price as a small one at my local pizza place - you still have to pay more if you want your pizza to be medium or large, because presumably, a 'one price for any pizza you want' policy was seen to be taking it too far.
So I obviously went for the extra large option, and now have about two extra meals worth of pizza in my fridge! This is clearly either very good or very bad news, on the one hand I have 'free' pizza, on the other I have three unhealthy take-away meals instead of one...

In fact I spent most of my day trying to fix the problems I created last week. This having-a-proper-grown-up-job thing isn't getting easier...

...And then I got a journal. Not really sure what I'm going to write here yet but I guess a first post like this is probably traditional (and I need to check the fonts and stuff). So...

Hello, whoever you may be. Sorry that there's not much to see here yet, feel free to move on quickly (or stay a while and look at a nearly blank screen if you want, it's really up to you!)
