This past weekend was my 40th high school reunion. It being a multiple-of-five year, I went in for a couple of events. Luckily, I could crash at Mom's (about two miles from campus) and not have to commute in both days (at a 50-mile one-way trip).
Friday festivities began with a cocktail party at Kingswood. There were a lot of us represented. Catering included a cash bar, crudités, fried shrimp, vegan wontons, buffalo chicken skewers, and a chocolate pudding shooters. After that we adjourned to Liz' house for the class-specific after-party; her catering included caprese salad skewers, bruschetta, more crudités including cheese wrapped in salami, brownies, blondies, macarons, and an open bar. When things started thinning out I headed back to Mom's.
Saturday there were a number of events I skipped. I did go in early for the Quadfest dinner (mainly to ensure I had a decent parking spot) and chatted with folks. At 6:00pm we all moved to the Marquis stairs next to the dining hall for our class photos (one of the whole class, then one each of the girls alone and boys alone). At 7:00pm we went into the dining hall for our class-specific dinner that included some returning faculty (including my biology, computer science, and physics teachers, as well as a couple of others from English and Science that I knew but didn't take classes from). The menu there was:
Around 8:30pm we headed outside where it was cooler to keep chatting until we headed to Debbie's house for another after-party. Debbie was in the class of '81, we're the class of '86, and her kid was in the class of '21, so she opened the house to all three groups. She also had some folks in to direct traffic and run a van service between the remote parking area and the house. Food included an open bar, a gyro bar from Olga's, a coney dog bar, and a build-your-own taco bar (proteins included carne asada, pollo asada, and carnitas), with chips and salsas, plus some brownies, blondies, and chocolate-dipped strawberries. (I limited myself to a single Woodford Reserve on the rocks. The bartender poured me a double.)
Around 11:15pm I was fading fast so I caught the shuttle back to the car and drove back to Mom's.
Sunday I stripped the bed so we could launder the sheets, packed up most of my things, and had brunch with Mom and my brother: Bagels and lox, blintz soufflé, smoked trout, and pickled herring. I have leftovers of all of it except the trout. After that I finished packing, loaded up the car, and headed home. Alas, the I-275 south ramp to M-14 west was closed so I had to work around it by using some surface streets.
