What the internet taught me today
Feb. 25th, 2013 01:09 pmThere are Mongolian Boy Bands. And they are exactly like ours.
Also, I now have a deep abiding desire to visit Mongolia. (And Iceland. And Scotland. There's a surprise theme here, can you spot it?)
I hear many of you saying, Kay, even for you this is -- well, not surprising, but -- er, different. Ish. From whence did this arise?
One of the circles I joined on a whim in my LCL class has a woman from Mongolia, which is partly one of the reasons I chose it. I'm getting exposed to all kinds of things, in a real world way.
Plus, I've always had an interest in learning Cyrillic (and not for LJ, lol).Maybe I'll look into online courses for that! Strike that, I'll do it the Creative Learning way -- the Boy Band is Camerton (in Latin alphabet), and I can jump off from there! BWEEEE!

Back to the future
Oct. 6th, 2012 06:21 pmAm back from Minneapolis, with hubby after two hubby-less months. Also saw son and ate wonderful food.
Drove through snow flurries and had about an eighth-inch when we got here. Pah. Gone now.
Picked up dogs at noon. They don't hate me, and remember him. Win-win.
Hubby had a REALLY GOOD TRADITIONAL CAPPUCCINO from a great barista at a fabulous shop (Quixotic Coffee) in son's neighborhood. Three times. He started critiquing caps from other places. He has had his god shot.Nevermind the three splendas he requires -- from which I'm slowly backing him down -- his is a pedantic palate. He drinks Folgers and can't handle even lukewarm drinks.
So now I'm spoiled, though, to the point of no longer really enjoying my local-ish coffee house for what it is, which is... meh. Twelve ounce cap... there's 16 and 20 too. (For those of you at home, a traditional cap is only 6 ounces or less and yes, it makes a difference.) And the caramel macchiatto on their daily special is totally not just a vanilla latte with caramel because they use real Ghirardelli Caramel syrup and not the drink syrup. Points to the barista for enthusiasm though.) I spent two hours geeking out with the owner of Stumbeanos in Fergus Falls on the way over, including sampling his homemade syrups and getting his recipes. Heaven.
But now I don't have anyone to do it for me.
*cries*
