A deep ocean is a variant of regular oceans with the seafloor twice as deep.

Generation

[edit | edit source]

Deep oceans generate adjacent to oceans when the continentalness drops even lower. This means that they cannot border land biomes, except mushroom fields. The seafloor is twice as deep as in regular oceans, usually around Y=30, and islands are much rarer, yet not impossible.

Deep oceans generate in the medium temperature zones, bordering deep lukewarm oceans and deep cold oceans.

Description

[edit | edit source]

Like in any deep ocean, ocean monuments generate in deep oceans, meaning guardians and elder guardians can spawn there. Tall seagrass also generates more frequently in deep oceans compared to shallower oceans. In any other aspect, deep oceans are the same as regular oceans, with a gravel seabed and common fish spawning.

The following mobs naturally spawn here:

Issues relating to "Deep Ocean" are maintained on the bug tracker. Issues should be reported and viewed there.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • Before 1.18, the plains and forest biomes generated in patches within regular deep ocean biomes, similar to how "hills" biomes generated within their respective base biomes, creating islands.
    • Although normal deep ocean biome could generate standalone, normal deep ocean biomes also generated in patches within normal ocean biomes.
