Should this page be deleted?

[edit source]

There is quite a lot of controversy surrounding this page. I think it should be created, because it has been confirmed for 1.12, and there are screenshots of it, and we know its behaviour. Why can't this page be added? - Nixinova (talk|edits) 04:35, 28 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

In the present situation where information is inaccurate it is not desirable to do such a thing. Currently, it seems that it is best not to create a page or to use 1.12 transfer page. We will create a page after "Parrot" is implemented.--{{User:Beans1512/Sign}} 04:39, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
We're not in a position to say what information is accurate yet, all we could do is to repeat only and exactly what Mojang themselves have said so far. That being said, I don't see how that is an argument for not having the page yet, it just means we have to be clear that the information we have is from the devs rather than coming from in-game directly. (Needless to say, I don't agree with MCW:FUTURE's apparent proscription on having content about a feature until that feature is released, but I don't particularly feel like attempting to convince the community to change that rule (or whatever other ones I don't agree with).) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 06:06, 28 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Frequency of parrots

[edit source]

The page currently claims that parrots spawn in jungles "at a relatively frequent rate". I personally doubt it. The review I say claimed it took for the reviewer about seven minutes wandering around a jungle to find a pack of parrots. Intrigued, I tested the new snapshot to see who was right and, yep, I wasn't able to find a single parrot. Those guys seem to be ocelot-tier rarity, according to my experience. What do you think? Obviously, I'm not going to touch the page without confirmation from other people. - Morenohijazo (talk|edits) 22:47, 30 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Then, shall I delete "at a relatively frequent rate"?--{{User:Beans1512/Sign}} 22:51, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

Spawn egg?

[edit source]

In the Spawning section of this article, it says However, it can also be spawned with a spawn egg. Is putting this information here really nesacary? -75.179.18.235 20:09, 2 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

What if you’re a new player and you didn’t know? Not everyone has good Minecraft experience. TBFTE123 (talk) 11:13, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Every entity has a spawn egg, so this isn't needed in the article. And it hasn't been in the article for quite a while. ~ Amatulic (talk) 16:20, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Breeding

[edit source]

Since i saw nothing on the breeding of parrots, i wondered if this was already implemented but not yet documented or just plain not implemented yet. Virtualurl (talk) 22:59, 4 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Parrots don't breed at this point. I haven't personally heard any plans to make them breedable, myself, yet. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 23:24, 4 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Why protect this page

[edit source]

Why? -180.190.39.237 (talk) 03:46, 21 February 2018‎ (UTC)Reply

Take a look at the history of the article. Scroll down to where you can see IP addresses, and look for the words "vandalism," "undo," or "reverted." Chances are, you are looking at examples of anonymous users performing vandalism. That is why. Slscool (talk) 05:05, 21 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Traveling with parrots through cold biomes

[edit source]

I think I found an intended behavior with parrots. I ranged out to find a jungle and tame a bunch of parrots and cats to bring home. While navigating back I decided to go through an ice plains biome instead of navigating another forest. I got a ways through when I realized the parrots weren't following me by teleporting anymore even though the cats did, and they flew only briefly when I approached them again. The moment I stepped out to a warmer biome they all teleported to me. It makes sense that parrots would become lethargic in a cold biome, but I never thought Minecraft would consider doing that. --98.114.149.132 20:19, 16 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

I've seen the same thing, but since the page is protected I can't add it to the page. 86.82.30.109 21:35, 2 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
This actually sounds like a bug where parrots can’t teleport on snow, rather than intentional design. FVbico (talk) 22:08, 2 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Just tested it. Provinding a large area without snow will help parrots teleport, and covering everything with carpets will prevent them. It would still be diligent to make this part of the page because it's a particular behaviour of this mob that other mobs do not have. Also, IMO it's not up to the wiki to define what's a bug and what's not. 86.82.30.109 22:35, 2 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
I never said it’s up to the wiki to define it, but I was hinting at that somebody should report it to mojang’s bug tracker, mojira. Aside from that, the wiki usually does not list bugs, and saying that parrots won’t enter snowy biomes would be false information.
EDIT: already reported: MC-118327 FVbico (talk) 22:39, 2 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
I wouldn't want it to say "can't enter snowy biomes", because that's merely a consequence of their teleportation behaviour being different from cats and dogs. That aside, could you point me to any wiki policy about listing bugs? All I could find was that MCW:SG says "avoid speculative or unsourced", the teleportation behaviour can be seen directly in-game. Maybe it's in some policy talk page? Thanks. 86.82.30.109 23:17, 2 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
I said it’s the wiki doesn’t list bugs, I didn’t say anything regarding it being a policy. FVbico (talk) 23:20, 2 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Possibility that I influenced parrots

[edit source]

The day snap shot 17w13a me and my friend loved playing with parrots, and my friend had a cockatiel in real life. so I tweeted at mojang and minecraft if they could add his bird and literally the next day 17w13b came out with the bird as a new parrot. this blew our minds, I'd love to think that someone noticed my tweet, but it could be wishful thinking. if you have anything to add please let me know. Link to the tweet: https://twitter.com/pignessman7/status/847564489851625472 -Pignessman7

Parrots were confirmed before that time, and it takes more than a day to implement such mob, so no, it wasn't because of your tweet. FVbico (talk) 01:29, 14 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Spawn Conditions

[edit source]

The article says parrots spawn on grass or leaves, but my own experiance suggests it's only leaves. I've done some experimenting and it seems to confirm that: https://web.archive.org/web/20190711145122/https://imgur.com/GuVO8CS https://web.archive.org/web/20190711145123/https://imgur.com/gxHUjZ7

According Bedrock Edition spawn_rules, parrot spawn on surface on grass, but leaves considered as transparent block which allow them to spawn and due jungle floor are covered by leaves, so they spawn on leaves.

Animated parrot + person images causing content reflow

[edit source]

Hey! I have never edited a wiki and sorry if writing in the wrong place, but wanted to tell that animation with person and parrot combos causing text content to reflow because of the different sizes of images.

The possible fix for that would be to set div width to fixed 125px (I believe?) and inner animated span to float right, so it doesn't jump around in the div. But I'm not sure if that's a possibility... Changing width in animation template will probably stretch all images (?). Maybe you can use style and give class names to elements? If no, then maybe someone can change canvas width of all images with alignment to the right to insure they always 125px in width? — DaFri Nochiterov (talk) 19:26, 26 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

I've fixed the overflow by setting a constant width of the images instead of a constant height. – Nixinova Image Image 20:17, 26 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Welp, now it's not playing nicely, constantly changing size of the person (player). But hours ago when hiking, I've got an idea that we can simply add another div inside of div and float it, without need of style or class names whatsoever. I just made an edit, it looks more nicely. Though I think, should the constant width be set to 125px or 140px, where it will leave a little of space and probably won't leave single “a”, by breaking it to next line (or it's just my browser...) — DaFri Nochiterov (talk) 04:57, 27 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Milticoloured Parrot?

[edit source]

When I was on multiplayer with my friend, we saw a parrot in the jungle that had multiple colours and occasionally changed colour. We did not give it a name tag, so and are wondering if it is a glitch or a hidden feature. Photos coming soon.

Parrots seem to reduce chance of knockback taken

[edit source]

Some people I met over discord did a test. Full netherite armor, with 0 parrots, 1 parrot, and 2 parrots perched on the player's shoulders, 400 hits each. According to their tests, 57.75%, 47.25%, and 38.25% of hits made the player take knockback, therefore parrots reduce knockback by ~10% each. Where would this be put in the wiki? And how would we confirm the data so that we aren't putting unreliable data onto the wiki? --Amagicmuffin (talk) 06:43, 8 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Y Level needs to be checked

So the article says they only spawn on Y Level 70 or above. But I'm on a Skyblock World and got one spawning ab about level -50. – Unsigned comment added by 181.81.70.31 (talk) at 00:09, 1 January 2023 (UTC). Sign comments with ~~~~Reply

Do parrots actually learn sounds and how?

[edit source]

I wanted to make a couple of parrots as a prank and was not able to make them learn neither wither nor warden sounds, is there any extra requirement for them other than being near a mob in 20 units or less? – Unsigned comment added by 5.228.118.158 (talk) at 20:46, 7 January 2025 (UTC). Please sign comments with ~~~~Reply

Parrots don't learn sounds. When they imitate mobs, they either imitate a nearby mob, or they imitate a random mob from the list of mobs they are able to imitate. Parrots don't remember which mobs they have imitated in the past. Rampage455 (talk) 23:07, 7 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
