Coding thoughts & things to come back to
Jan. 30th, 2023 09:30 pmI worked on my website for the first time in like 6 months today, and it was nice. There are a lot of little things I'm still proud of and a lot I'm still scratching my head at, but I need to remember this is my virtual bonsai for myself. I should let things be and not go wild clipping and cutting things out.
I would like to redo & update my gallery eventually, but one thing I can do that wouldn't take a complete overhaul is figure out how to get some of the pages to function more responsively. I learned how to use grid over the summer, but need to take the time to revise some of my old pages so they don't look strange on different size screens. I still need to learn how to fix my index to make it more responsive to mobile too (mobile coding, my beloathed). And for some reason my stylesheet isn't wanting to work for some of the essays I've posted there, so I'll have to pick around with the code another time I feel like I have the brainpower to tolerate a lot of trial and error.
I did finally get the RSS for this blog to post to my journal page there, so that's a huge lofesaver cause I won't need to manually code every single entry now. I do like the way I opened all of my old entries with a tarot reading--I think I felt each entry needed to be more meaningful since I was taking the time to code everything. Maybe I'll try to do some of that more here for like my actual journaling and not just my blog emtries.
Another thing to look into eventually is a way to share mixes that doesn't involve Spotify. Or Youtube for that matter. I don't use Spotify and I'm not a fan of how it embeds. And Youtube doesn't allow for embedding without it's bigass video player, so that's not an option either. I'd like to figure out how to handcode my own playlists, but the times I've tried before have been frustrating because of having to use JavaScript (*weeps*) and also because of how finicky audio links can be with the hosts I've used. I'd like to habe a better way to share my fanmixes that don't involve forcing someone to download the whole thing to listen or making someone sign up/use the monopoly services. I'll have to poke around and see what I can find, or just bite the bullet and get myself to learn more JS.
