ruuger: A hand making a rude sign with the text "DO the deformed rabbit. It's my favourite." (Discworld - deformed rabbit)
Short, non-spoilery review: I thought it was well made, but there were some elements that I hated with passion, and I doubt I will rewatch it any time soon. Also - and I am probably the only fan of the book who is going to say this - I thought it's biggest flaw was that it was too loyal to the book.

(there was also the same sort of not-Britishness that also bothered me in Doctor Who S11)

Warning: I get really negative here )

I'd be really interested to hear what people who hadn't read the book before seeing the show thought about it. Were the jokes funnier if you didn't know them beforehand?

Okay, okay, the last three Terminator movies have been different levels of terrible, but how can you not get excited by the trailer for Terminator: Dark Fate?

Seeing Linda Hamilton step out of that cars just makes my heart flutter. Sarah Connor is one of my all time favourite characters and she's back!

I almost keep getting excited about Star Trek: Picard, because I keep forgetting that I don't like Picard himself (sorry, but I don't). Also, I just realised that even though I think of myself as a Star Trek fan, I'm actually only really fan of the Next Generation (though I have liked most of the Classic Trek that I've seen).

The next movie I'll probably go and see is X-Men: Dark Phoenix, because even though I preferred Famke Janssen's Jean Grey (and X-Men: Apocalypse was a bit of a disappointment), the X-Men movies are still my favourite superhero franchise.

I'm also kinda interested in the new Joker movie? I didn't think I would be, but the trailer looks pretty good.

On non-genre front, I'm also looking forward to Armando Iannucci's Personal History of David Copperfield, not just because it has Peter Capaldi in it, but also because anything by Iannucci is worth checking out. Plus the cast is amazing (Dev Patel, Capaldi, Hugh Laurie, Ben Whishaw, Tilda Swinton & Gwendoline Christie). I just wish they'd give it a release date already! And speaking of Iannucci, I'm also really looking forward to Avenue 5, the scifi show he's doing for HBO.

On TV-show front I'm also going to have to decide soon if my dislike of Amazon is enough to keep me from subscribing to it for a month to watch Good Omens. I have my worries about it (starting with the fact while I love David Tennant as a person, I don't particularly like him as an actor), but I'm sure it'll be good. It. will. be. good.

Remember when I predicted that Good Omens will be the next wanky megafandom? Well, they just cast David Tennant as Crowley (and Michael Sheen as Aziraphale). So yeah. Definitely a megafandom.

Michael Sheen is good casting, I think - he's been good at pretty much everything I've seen him in (although I must admit that my "he'd be perfect in this" moment for him is actually his appearance in the Great Bake-Off, which I thought was very Aziraphael-esque :D). Not so sure about David Tennant, though. I just rewatched his Doctor Who episodes and he's a rather... shouty actor. He's just not anything like my image of Crowley.

Also, reportedly the miniseries will be set in current day, which makes me wonder how they'll deal with the more 80's specific elements of the book.

So apparently BBC and Amazon are teaming up to make a Good Omens miniseries.

This will be the big megafandom of 2018, am I right? I mean, Good Omeans already has a fairly active fandom for a 30-year-old book and the passive fanbase is *huge* so there will be a lot of anticipation for the show, which will lead to fannish activity and then eventual wank when the wrong people are cast and wrong parts are left out/included.

(and then people who don't like the book will feel left out and start coming up with reasons why the book/show is problematic because these days you are not allowed to just dislike something - you also need to prove that disliking it makes you a better person than the people liking it)

(which will then be countered by people who like the book trying to prove that it's actually the most progressive piece of fiction ever made, because you also aren't allowed to like things unless it makes you better person than not liking the thing)

Me, I'm sort of excited about it even though Good Omens has never been among my favourite Gaiman or Pratchett works (I mean, I like it but not as much as, say, Sandman or most of Discworld books). I'm more interested in the upcoming American Gods tv-show, because I feel like it could even surpass the book -- I think Good Omens has a bigger chance of failure because the humour might not translate well to screen (see: some of the Discworld filmatizations). And please, please, please let it not have Johnny Depp as Crowley :/

What is everyone's thoughts about the Good Omens show? Who's your dream cast?

(my only casting thought at the moment is that I'd kinda like to see John Boyega as Newton Pulcifer... I don't know why, but he was the first actor who popped into my head when I thought about the character)

Hey, look, I'm procrastinating!

There's been some discussion lately at [livejournal.com profile] discworld and [livejournal.com profile] lower_tadfield about a Good Omens film and who should be cast as Aziraphale and Crowley should it ever be made (Terry Gilliam apparently wanted Robin Williams and Johnny Depp - Depp I could live with, Williams, not so much). And as a result of this discussion I ended up doing wallpapers with James Marsters as Crowley and Kenneth Branagh as Aziraphale even though neither is quite how I have imagined the character (I'm having trouble imagining anyone else than Pratchett and Gaiman as A & C, though I doubt that casting would ever work :)).

Anyway, two wallpapers it is:

And yes, I know, Crowley should have sunglasses but I couldn't manip them on without making him look like a panda and at least I remembered the yellow eyes (although I did forget the slitted vertical pupils).

ETA: Forgot the two icons I made from the wallpapers. Like usually, both are shareable.
