Challenge Idea

finrsims: (Default)
[personal profile] finrsims
[community profile] simcomm
I've been thinking about making a ProblematicTM gen challenge for a while, and promised myself I would start writing down ideas properly, and I'm finally doing it.

Whoever is reading this, you are more than welcome to give me your 2cents and help me make sense of things.
As of now I'm still in the brainstorming stage and haven't yet thought of how to properly implement this with basegame/mods, let alone playtesting it. I will do it once I have a vague idea of where I want to go.

So gen challenges are usually 10 gens long, right? And I wanted to do a 10 gen Problematic gameplay thing, right? And which religion has a very popular 10 step program for things you shouldn't do? I know you're thinking what I'm thinking.

As of now, my very general idea would be to go in this order:

1 Cult
(suicide of the group at the end)
2 Religion/Harem
(have a full household 7 in the harem + messiah sim, have as many kids as possible, make harem paint portraits of messiah sim everywhere on the lot, send kids to an orphanage lot on the side. choose 1 heir and follow them to the orphanage)
3 Orphanage battle royale edition
(some kind of trials will cut down the ever increasing numbers. who survives when they become teen is the heir)
4 Kidnapping
(as the sole survivor, you fill the orphanage up again by kidnapping kids. Every Saturday you release one. Have a kid with your fav orphan)
5 Arson / incest + rags to riches
(there's a party when the heir is a kid, put all the sims in the same room, try to start a fire and kill as many sims as you can. Those who survive still have to die by fire. Get creative to make it happen. If you're not the sole survivor by mid-teen age, adopt a new kid who will be the new heir. failed heir dies by fire too)
6 Serial killer
(what it says on the tin?)
7 Cheat
(cheat with your spose always in the same lot. Never let them find you. If they find you, you need to kill the spouse, marry the lover, and find someone else to cheat with)
8 Robbery
(what it says on the tin?)
9 Power abuse/murder
(become a cop, get to know the people behind bars, choose one that has a family/lover, look up where they live or hang around in public lots until you spot one of them, get close to them, kill the sim behind bars, take their place with their loved ones)
10 Fuck&Pass
(only fuck sims who are married. Break 4 marriages and steal their houses)

I'm not sure everything works smoothly though, I'm still trying to make the passage from one gen to the next reasonable.

Absolutely wild. Love it.

I like what you have for each step. I wonder if reversing the order of the 10 steps would make it flow easier? & so that kidnapping turns into the orphanage > harem > death cult and at the end you're done, all your sims are dead >:-]

Robbery without mods could be the classic decorate your home only with stolen furniture from being a klepto. Or sell stolen things to acquire a certain amount of simoleons, but I don't know how profitable the klepto trait actually is.

I like for 5 having to get rid of your heirs parents somehow and they could have either have had an incestuous relationship with them or a negative one (or mix-matched 🤔 an oedipus/electra thing)

Your idea for 9 is amazing.

I'm all ears for any more brainstorming aloud you want to do!

OK I tried reversing the order and developing it a bit.
This is what I have for now. Aspirations and traits are at times entirely ironical. Unless otherwise stated, all aspirations have to be completed.

1 Fuck&Pass
aspiration: Serial Romantic
traits: Romantic - Jealous - Cheerful

Four boyfriends/girlfriends before YA stage
Only fuck married sims after YA
Break four marriages in total. Always move into their house, kick out the ex spouse and eventual kids if there are any.
Have a kid before the second broken marriage, drag the kid along for the remaining two.

2 Cheat
aspiration: Party Animal
traits: Noncommittal - Clubber - Dance Machine

Heir learns from their dysfunctional parent. Loves to party, meets lovers and partners exclusively at clubs.
Marry whoever, move in with them. Keep on going regularly to clubs and bringing lovers home.
Only cheat when the spouse is on the lot, don't get caught.
If you get caught, break up with them and move in with the lover. Marry them, then find another lover and do it all over again.
Have a kid at some point?

3 Robbery
aspiration: Friend Of The World
traits: Klepto - Freegan - Glutton

Motivation???
Runaway teen, 0 simoleons.
Sleep with people to stay the night (otherwise you have to sleep on public lots), then rob them.
Build your house on stolen items or sold stolen items.
Marry an unemployed sim, neither can get a job ever. Only survive on scraps and robberies.
Have a kid at some point?

4 Power Abuse
aspiration: Super Parent
traits: Good - Slob - Self-assured

Hates parents. Becomes a cop to fight people like parents and bring them to justice.
Find someone married among the arrested people.
Kill the person, keep urn in inventory.
Stalk public places until you meet their family.
Move in with them, replace killed person, hide urn somewhere secret.
Have a kid of your own, or select as heir one of the dead sim's kids, if they were already in the family.

5 Serial Killer
aspiration: Public Enemy
traits: Hot-headed - Mean - Paranoid

Find the urn as a kid, learn your fucked up family situation.
From T stage start killing single people, paranoid that they will destroy good families like it already happened with yours.
Never fall in love.
Adopt a kid. Get overly protective and attached to them, the only person you trust. Trap them in a room in the basement of your lot.

6 Incest
aspiration: Outdoor Enthusiast
traits: Loner - Loves Outdoors - Hates Children

Incest with parent.
Still trapped in the basement, they're the only person heir interacts with.
During YA heir kills parent and escapes from the basement with 1000 simoleons.
Starts building a house, gets a job, falls in love with co-worker.
Heir/Partner will become pregnant, but heir will hate the child because their family is clearly cursed.

7 Kidnapping
aspiration: Big Happy Family (won't be completed once it requires grandchildren)
traits: Childish - Music Lover - Family Oriented

Move out as a YA, after being neglected all your life.
Start kidnapping kids in parks, believing their parents don't want them and will neglect them like it happened to them.
Fill up an orphanage in another world.
Every Saturday release & replace 1 kid. No one is allowed to grow into the T stage.
Music room is your favorite, it's where you'll always meet the favorite pupil.
Have 2 kids with favorite kid. Choose 1 heir

8 Battle Royale
aspiration: Soulmate
traits: Genius - Slob - Bookworm

As the heir gets closer to the T stage, last gen goes from releasing 1 kid every Saturday to killing (walled in?) 1 every Saturday.
Kids are only allowed to eat spoiled food.
Heir has a bestfriend in the orphanage.
They plot to kill everyone (because last gen was brainwashing the kids into bringing their school mates at the orphanage to be the new victims) and escape the last day of Heir's childhood stage (or bae's if they're older).
Try to have a normal life after that. Become an author, write about your experiences, make money off of it. Gain two points of fame.

9 Messiah
aspiration: Leader of the pack
traits: Self-absorbed - Art Lover - Lazy

Heir grows up on the incredible stories of their survivor parents. Parents go on the news and are famous and adored, people say they are inspiring.
Heir wants the same kind of adoration. Wants the setup of the orphanage but better: a harem (of 6 people).
6 slaves make portraits and take pictures of Heir, that's the only allowed decor and income source.
Have as many kids as possible from the slaves, the first one is the heir, all the others will be sent away to the orphanage.
(if nisa's mod is present, the kids will all be prostitutes)

10 Cult
aspiration: Mansion Baron
traits: Materialist - Snob - Ambitious

Heir to the messiah, but still they lived in too much poverty for the level of alleged glory the parent claimed to want.
Heir wnats to do better and become as rich as possible.
New harem (club?). All 7 members must rich the top level of their career.
Make sure the household has more than 500,000 simoleons and that the aspiration is complete.
When it's done, kill everyone (heir included).

@[personal profile] simelation - Fuck I accidentally deleted your comment even though I just wanted to delete the notification that the message had been modified?

Hold on, I had it still open in another tab so at least I can copy&paste it.

"Yes! I love it! I love how it gets progressively unhinged. 4, again, inspired. Chef's kiss to 8's write a book part; it flows so well into the last two gens. This challenge is basically every messed up thing I've wanted to do in the sims and more.

Maybe the motivation for robbery can be something like the child learned that cheating to get what they want (robbery) is a valid way to live in and that people hardly notice what goes on in their home (parent cheated right next to unaware spouse) when they're initially confronted with a friendly face. I think it meshes well as a concept with Friend of the World needing Charisma leveling.
I imagine a character who schmoozes their way into people's stuff, like a con artist.

ETA: Do you reckon it's ready for a playtest or is there more you'd like to nail down?"

I like your motivation linking the cheating and getting whatever the sim wants with the heir learning to do the same. The runaway situation could be because they still hated their parents and the sad family life they had, and were so self-righteous with their decision to sleep in a public park rather than sharing a roof with their fucked up parent, completely ignoring how robbing people is still applying the same logic learned from parent.
Cinematic parallel, love it.

I think it can already be play-tested. At this point the specifics and bugs are things that would come out while trying to clear all 10 gens in-game, rather than brainstorming it like this.
I'm undecided on a few of these gens that require the Get To Work pack. Should I also try to make it base-game compatible and figure out an alternative? Including options for those who don't want the ATF mod (which would be needed in the orphanage), or kidnap mods etc.
Kidnapping could be a simple Add To Family cheat, while the narration keeps the context.
All the underage stuff could be setting up an exclusive relationship, even though without mods it looks entirely platonic. But again, narration would keep the context. Instead of getting an orphan pregnant, adopt another kid.

Haha and to think I almost edited it a third time to fix word choice :~)

I figure it does have to be up to imagination and narration if certain mods aren't used.
In the orphanage part the ages could probably be bumped up if the player wanted. Instead of the detective career base game has the secret agent career—right?—which would be the closest and perhaps one could steal the family of a coworker? Or anyone in the world tbf, a secret agent could disappear anyone! So I think it's feasible to make a base game version, but not needed at the moment imo.

Ah, I want to play this. I had some other challenges on my list for after the hunger games legacy, but I've bumped this to the top. It keeps reminding me of my dubious orphanage I created and then never actually played haha.

Yeah, the orphanage could do something like "no one is allowed to go beyond the T stage" instead of keeping everyone a child. Which could also be a choice for those who don't want to use ATF or go that route but still have teenage sex allowed with WW.

Secret Agent would be great for basegame! Level 5 is literally Lead Detective. The rules could state that for those who play it basegame, you have to wait for that promotion before finding the victim among the coworkers.
But I do think that this challenge offers its best on a modded game, and I would definitely like to play-test it like that first.

I'm so curious to see you try it out! The orphanage was clearly a sign, it was fate.

first of all, many thanks for letting me join the comm! i appreciate it and i hope it can grow with more and more folks joining :)

but in regards to your updated list, i think these are really fun ideas and the order makes much more sense this way. i was thinking-- for either gen 1 or 2 (or any of the other ones, really), the "twisted heart" reward trait from the "villainous valentine" aspiration might be a good additional trait to alleviate some of the imagination needed while playing. or maybe even the aspiration itself? just a thought, as it seems to match up well with a lot of these ideas.

another idea i have is for gen 3, maybe integration with Basemental Drugs to have the runaway become a dealer for added income + the risk of arrest. and i think the idea for the last gen to be done via the club function is a great idea, especially with mods to add custom activities.

this is all super exciting stuff~ you're awesome for putting it all together!

Welcome!!! Feel totally free to simdump whatever in here!

Villanous Valentine could work with Gen 1, definitely. One of its requirements is breaking 10 relationships, it could be fused with the rules already in the challenge where you need to make sure that 5 of those 10 relationships are marriages. It's also interesting that it says "get caught cheating x10" whereas gen 2 requires for the sim not to get caught cheating. So it could be a nice link where the heir learns from the mistakes of the parent and decide that getting caught is just too messy.

Gen 3 as it is now is very basegame friendly. It would absolutely work great with basemental drugs!

I will rewrite the list fixing those details, and I don't think it will be long before I start play-testing it. The challenge I'm playing now is way too chill and wholesome, it would be nice to have something to counterbalance it when I get bored.
