So, [livejournal.com profile] moony_blues and I were discussing killfile implementation in S2, as you do, and the implementation as detailed on the S2 How To comm is flawed, as it doesn't work for all layouts, and you need a paid account to both set it up, and update it, which can be annoying.

On DW )
On LJ or IJ )

So far I've done it for Minimalism and Smooth Sailing some styles only, but if you want me to do it for your layout, just ask. And if you do it yourself, please either post about it and tell me so I can link to it, or give me the code so I can add it here :)

I'm getting frustrated with S2 like woah, and I'd love it if someone would lend in a helping hand.

I'm trying to get the friend's colours to display on my friends page (on IJ, right now, but once I'm done with IJ, I'll do it with DW). I want the colour to appear as a left border with a padding, but only for those friends I've attributed a colour to.

Right now, I've got this in FriendsPage::print_entry:

if ($bg != "#ffffff") {
    "style='border-left: solid 1em $bg; padding-left: 1em;'";
}

I get the following error message: "The types of the left and right hand side of equality test expression don't match."

$bg is a Color type variable, which is presumably not a string, hence the error message, but I'm not making sense of the S2 manual (what else is new?) and therefore don't understand what type I should be comparing it to. :/

ETA: I've taken away the quotes, because I had a lightbulb where I remembered that #ffffff is actually a number. Except that I got a new error message, where the compiler is expecting an opening parenthesis, which, wtf? I suspect it of thinking ffffff is a function, hence the opening parenthesis thing, but it's not actually helpful.

There's no way to actually move things around, or add/delete links, or whatever, but you can still change the colours.

You can turn the navigation strip on and off on the Viewing Options page. By default, there are only colours offered, but you can modify this with a little CSS.

For S2 layouts, you need to go to the Custom CSS box and add the appropriate code in it. Save changes and reload your journal. You may have to clear your cache.

I've seen quite a few people complaining that IJ's stylescheme is eye-searing, so here's a tutorial on how to change that:

First, there are different styleschemes available on the Browse Preferences pages, which might satisfy some of the users.

If none of those options suit you, there are other, browser-dependant solutions. I'm afraid that they won't be working in Internet Explorer, but Firefox/Epiphany/Opera users are in luck :)

I think it can be used in Safari, too. Anyone mind trying it and writing a tutorial?

[insanejournal.com profile] painless_j and [insanejournal.com profile] tryfanstone have added a SafeSurf label to their LJs, and it's a rather good idea. The SafeSurf label is used by some net-nanny softwares to block access to sites. Here's a tutorial for getting one and inserting it into your LJ. This tutorial is for paid users who use a S2 style only. People who use a S1 style can do it very easily (see PJ's post). Free users with a S2 style can't do it.
