Modding question!
Also vididng question.
(More related than you might think.)
stormylullabye and I are modding the H50 40k bigbang (
five0bang ). Signups start next week, but we had a question that I honestly have no idea how to answer, so I figured I'd ask you smart people.
From our guidelines:
What counts as art? Lots of things! Traditional art, digital art, and manips are all fine. If you want to check that what you have in mind is appropriate, PM a mod or leave a note in the page-a-mod post. We'll discuss it on a case-by-case basis.
Case-by-case basis #1:
Someone wants to do a story trailer kind of vid thing as their art. I really have no problem with this as a concept, and am a little sad at myself for not thinking of a vid as a form of art to begin with, but the problem lies in length. I am an absolutely craptastic vidder, it's never something I'm going to do for fun, and I have no idea how to equate a vid with a story of 40k or more. I feel like the time and effort it takes to plan, write, edit, have beta read, re-edit, and polish a 40k story is massive, and should have a kind of massive vid to go along with it, but I have no clue what that should be. Is a minute appropriate? I want to say no, something that long deserves something longer than that, maybe two minutes or 2:30. But then I think of how long it took me to make that last vid for
stargateland (read; way, way too long) and I have to pause, because that was only a minute long, and it took me for-freeling-ever.
So. Opinion time. Should vids be allowed as art for a bigbang? As a bigbang author, how would you feel about getting a vid for your story? As a vidder, what would you say is a good length for a vid that's a companion piece to a 40k story? Please let me know what you're thinking - and engage with each other here, go for it, please. I'd like all the input I can get. :)
Please and thank you, o wise flist :)
