Mirai is a subsidiary of Musashi Industrial and Starflight Concern (MISC) that develops and manufactures high-performance spacecraft. Established as a sub-brand based in Saisei in the Centauri system, it lets MISC pursue experimental and performance designs while retaining its industrial identity. Its lineage traces to a specialized MISC team formed in 2833, which produced the racing ship Razor after MISC gained access to Xi'an technology through a 2910 agreement; the Fury fighter was the brand's market debut.[1]
History
editMISC's interest in moving beyond industrial ships dates to 2833, when CEO Kori Desmon pushed the company to expand its portfolio on the strength of surpluses generated by the Hull series. A coalition of board members favored staying focused on industrial ships and forced Desmon to scale the ambition back to a single design team working on a dedicated racing ship, the Daedalus. The Daedalus competed in the Murray Cup and placed third in the 2853 race. The team was officially designated MISC-M, and it served as the liaison between MISC and the racing team that campaigned the ship.[2][1]
MISC-M was also directed to produce imaginative new ship designs with no requirement to keep them industrial. Most remained theoretical, and the division gained a reputation as a place where inexperienced designers learned their craft and veteran designers explored unusual ideas. Over decades it cataloged thousands of designs for ships, components, and furnishings without advancing any to the prototype stage.[2]
The division's value became apparent after MISC signed a landmark lend-lease agreement with the Xi'an in 2910. Tasked with evaluating the influx of Xi'an technology, MISC-M revisited its design database and revived the Daedalus concept, developing it into the Razor. The Razor won the Murray Cup Classic Race in 2945 and, on its release in 2947, sold well and received strong reviews.[2][1]
The brand itself was created later, when MISC CEO Irena Adjei saw a prototype of the Fury fighter. Adjei proposed launching a sub-brand to satisfy a board divided between members who wanted MISC to focus on industrial ships and those who hoped to expand the brand. The new sub-brand, named Mirai, allowed MISC to retain its industrial identity while providing an outlet for experimentation, and the Fury served as its market debut.[2]
Development
editMirai was introduced to the game to strengthen the brand identity of MISC by separating performance ships such as the Razor from the industrial ships that MISC offers. The Razor and its variants were transitioned from MISC to Mirai.[3]
