Props are items that only serve a decorative purpose and can be manipulated with Interaction Mode.
As of 3.7 they primarily generate in the world inside Player Habs, which vary from player to player. They persist as placed objects only within Habs or Ship Object Containers, otherwise they despawn almost instantly.
The manipulation of props was a talking point during the CitizenCon 2948 Keynote.
