Panzer Dragoon is a 1995 rail shooter game developed by Sega’s Team Andromeda for the Sega Saturn. The game follows a hunter named Keil, who forms a psychic link with a blue, laser-breathing dragon and vows to help it prevent a malevolent creature from reaching a mysterious tower, all while being pursued by a tyrannical empire across a post-apocalyptic land. Panzer Dragoon builds upon the on-rails shooting of Sega’s own Space Harrier, while also innovating the genre with a multi-target lock-on system and a controllable 360-degree camera. As a launch title for the Saturn, Panzer Dragoon’s impressive early 3D visuals, gorgeous cinematic cutscenes, and orchestral musical score fully showcased the console’s capabilities. Panzer Dragoon is now renowned as a cornerstone of both the Saturn’s library and the rail shooter genre as a whole.
