When I started watching The Orville I didn't think I would make it past the first couple of episodes, but I'm so glad they changed the tone over time, and I'm equally glad that I stuck with it. In honor of making it through to the end of S3 (and loving it), I made some art in honor of  one of my new-to-me favorite shows.

This is one of the few places I can share my squee. I've gone head over heels for Daniel Jackson, Stargate SG-1. Mixed media art journal piece -- zoom in to enjoy all the little details and references.

Daniel Jackson tribute

Some fun things in the piece:
  • A hastily scribbled, "I can't believe I gave up a tenured position for this."
  • The cartouche supposedly spells out "M-I-K-L" (Michael, in honor of Michael Shanks who played Daniel in the series)
  • Dictionary definitions of Linguistics, Cuneiform, Hieroglyphics
  • A specimen catalogue tag for the original stargate discovered in Giza

The "Green" fannish thing i've made most recently is this altered composition book. I am quite proud of how it turned out. I'm using it as an art journal, filling the pages with beautiful nonsense. You can scroll down a few entries to see it or click on the link below.

Non-fannish green things in my life right now include this spiral-shaped green bean that grew in my garden, squash vines and tendrils, and the green jungle that is my Three Sisters victory garden. The green hues found in nature -- all shades -- are deeply soothing to me.

I frequently use green in my art journals, though I tend more to blues, purples and browns these days. Green is probably my #3 or #4 most frequently used color.

And what would a green prompt be without Kermit's song, "It's not easy being green." I think we can all relate in one way or another.

Hand painted and hand lettered without the use of printouts. It's made from a converted composition book, and intended for future use as an art journal once I get all the pages prepped. I'm quite proud of this one and looking forward to filling it with art. (Edit: links added b/c uploading images doesn't always seem to work for me.)
