Opera Sauvage Review by AllMusic

This warm, lyrical album was derived from Vangelis's music for a French television series. Rich, electronic orchestrations range from grandly symphonic to simple and serene. Curiously enough, this title has experienced a major revival since the opening cut, "Hymne" was used for a Gallo Wine commercial. This 1979 release is an excellent introduction to his music.

Vangelis stands out for knowing how to well atmospherise his songs in this album.
We can notice it just by listening to the reve song, it's like making an immersion in the deepest parts of the ocean and finding life even in such an inhospitable place

The soundtrack for a minor TV documentary series, 1979's Opéra Sauvage is considered one of his most successful albums ever: it contains triumphant, Baroque-oriented balladry ("Hymne"), lengthy drones with seventh-minor chording ("Rêve") and lengthy, dramatic climaxes with faux horns ("Flamants Roses").

Highlights: "Rêve".

Hymne is always a pleasant listen, Reve is absolutely beautiful and the synthesizer textures are almost hypnotic. L'Enfant's simple melodies are majestic. Yet, they are fun and almost danceable, at the same time.Mouettes is peaceful and quiet, like a lullaby. The use of guitar on Chromatiques makes it interesting and the synth often floats like wisps in the wind.Irlande is almost medieval in tone.Flamants Roses has several movements. It progressively grows from slow and quiet to faster and faster tempos until it peaks, with the clash of a snare drum. Then it progressively descends back into a soft quietness.

Not for me. The record without conception. All compositions without melody, short, as the compositor hasn't got idea for this album. I think this album was recorded only for money or for another reason, but not for music.
