The digital world would be entirely opaque without screens and graphics, without computer artists and designers, without people like Maureen Nappi. Her renowned computer graphics work defines how we interact with computers and makes us interrogate the intersection of technology and culture.
- Restoring the Sexual Violence Program: a new oral history project documenting feminist student activism
When the University of Minnesota abruptly closed the Sexual Violence Program’s peer counseling service in 1989, students and staff sprang into action.
These activists’ efforts successfully reinstated crucial survivor services and pressured University leadership to address the broader culture of violence against women. Today, the Sexual Violence Program lives on as the Aurora Center for Advocacy and Education.

Microfilm is often touted as a thing of the past – has the average person even used it? Does anyone from Gen X and Alpha even know what it is? While microfilm actually is very much a format of the past (microforms have been around since the mid-1800s!), it has still managed to keep one foot in the door of the present, especially for those working in libraries, archives, and museums.
- Sequins, feathers, and fringe: The world’s largest ice show archive comes to the Tretter Collection
Roy Blakey was the caretaker of the world’s largest ice show archive, containing over 33,000 items, including costumes and skates worn by Sonja Henie. That archive, along with his extensive photography archive, has now found a home at the Tretter Collection.
