30 Days: New Computer!

I missed yesterday, but I have a good excuse. I got a new laptop, on accounta my old one died.

My old one was named Tippetarius, so this one is named Tippetarius2. Thus far they are mostly a good computer, except that (a) I hate having to go through and set everything up, and (b) my Firefox sync didn't work, so I"m having to manually re-enter all my passwords, and (c) some programs that I hadn't updated have some changes I don't care for in the latest version. But, you know, mostly that's diamond shoes being too tight.

Do you guys name you computers?

Also, random aside: anyone else having to scramble to pay for meds because there is some nationwide issue with things not getting through insurance? Not being declined, just not going through at all.

I have to have some way to distinguish my devices for Firefox Sync purposes, so yes

this laptop is Oxyderkes, the Linux laptop is Aithuia, the current tablet is Akraia, the current phone is Keleutheia, and the Raspberry Pi that exists mostly to let me watch stuff from the household media drive on my bedroom TV is Thalia

Computer is usually either Beast or Asp's Brain (I think current is the latter), so not true names but epithets, more.

I just got switched by my company (BOO) and found it weird that UHC (hiss spit) felt a need to send me an EOB for my freaking 'scrip fills. Aetna didn't do that.

I have named most of my computers (though for some reason didn't my current one) - normally after characters from fandoms, or sometimes hockey players

It’s not just meds, we tried every day last week to get vaccinated but insurance systems were totally down. Late this week some of them came up intermittently and we finally got through on Saturday (Cigna) even though Medicare was still 100% down.

Wonky pharmacy connections

Same as [personal profile] isilya, I was looking to get a vaccination, but the local pharmacy (which is generally good with Medicare dispensing), wasn't connecting with the larger system, on this last Wed and Thurs. I'm planning to check back Mon or Tues to see if they're back up.

New computers are always a momentous occasion.

Do you guys name you computers?

Yep. My current laptop is hannibal; in one of my bad jokes I'm the most proud of, one of the external disks I do daily/weekly backups to is called DRFELL.

I started with my first computer, a Brazilian clone of a ZX Spectrum I named Claudia. I don't remember why.

I had to set up a new PC recently and everything went pretty well but one thing that didn't carry over in the Firefox sync was the cache, and while inputting passwords again was annoying, at least it's something that is pretty much over and done with within the first few days as I visit my usual sites. What I've found more annoying is the websites that I'm used to just typing a few letters of and having them autofill are not there, so I have to type out the whole URL (if it's something I know) or google it.

I've never been one for naming things, though Carla does name all her devices.

I named my most recent laptop “Xiaolian” which means “little face” in Mandarin. I also have an external hard drive I named “Suibian” (“whatever”) which I very much enjoy!

I’ve been through all kinds of naming schemes —- for a while it was characters from the Odyssey! I had an iPad named Athena and a phone named Circe. Pretty sure there was a phase of concepts from Tolkien too.

I name my devices, but I don't really put a lot of thought into it. I have an iPad called Abalone because it's got a beautiful metallic blue back that I never see because it's in a keyboard case, and I have a phone named Redwood because it's got a nice forest green back which I never see, but at least the leather case I have it in has a nice green redwood tree on it. My laptop is provided by work, and I didn't get to name it even if I wanted to - it's called MW20ZQ05D, which is really hard to pronounce. I try not to name the servers at work anymore, because there's just too many, and {datacenter}-{function}-{number} is just easier than trying to remember that "dolomite" is a DNS server.

I name all my devices, generally relating to whatever I'm fannishly following. My older computer is named Janet and my phone is Derek (The Good Place); my newer computer is named Trixie (Call the Midwife), and my iPad is iPad, the Independent (Ted Lasso).
