Hard to believe it's been 20 years (!) since
I reviewed fanfics submitted for a contest on the late
Michael's Winx Club, and got yelled at by both Michael and TF, the founder of
the also-late LJ group where I originally intended to post the reviews :-\
(I also didn't expect that this wouldn't be the only post to be made this month about ancient Winx fandom content going missing, but that other post is coming later)
Look, I'm not going to re-litigate the central thesis of their complaints: that reviewing these fanfics is fundamentally unempathetic towards young under-18 (at the time, obvi) writers, like that time
30 Rock had Jenna
go all Simon Cowell against young kids at a singing contest (and ironically, I tried citing Cowell as a reason to argue in favor of allowing criticism) That said, reading the reviews 20 years later, I can somewhat see where they're coming from, since some of the reviews look somewhat harsh, even if to nowhere near the same degree as Jenna... (I also think some of Michael and TF's comments were too disproportionately harsh against critiques, but as I said, this is not the place to re-litigate the issue)
The real reason I decided to post about this (other than it being the anniversary) is because one of the main reasons I thought about making the reviews in the first place was that the winning fic, by someone named Eva L, ended up having what I felt was an unsatisfying ending, and I was thinking that perhaps others would feel the same way... But ever since Michael's site went offline in 2019 (wow, 7 years already?), it has been unavailable to read, even on Wayback, even though
the also-rans did get Wayback-ed :-\ But I managed to grab the fic during the site's last weeks of existence, so here it is, rescued from the heap of internet impermanence, the winning fanfic that started this whole mess :-) (Presented as originally posted with no commentary, and I already made it 20 years ago anyway)

There's this painting I hate, that every brazillian kid grew up seeing everywhere. It's called "Abaporu" by Tarsila do Amaral. I've got into arguments why I think it's ugly and not in a subjective kind of way. I do think this work is worthless and meaningless, I hate it.
My psychologist told me that I'm a very creative-driven person and that I find it's hard to be in a very non-stimulating environment, which is true, I do think of myself as an artist. I love to draw, to model, to paint, to write and to sew plushies. I also love to bake, to cook and to do homemade stuff. This perspective is ironic to me, because I've never thought of myself as someone fit for desk jobs, I still doesn't, but somewhere I got tangled in the narrative because now I have 10 or so spreadsheets open at my desk, and I'm listening to love songs while I gaze contemptuously over the screen in front of me. My boss sits in that chair and just above her hangs that damn painting, and to add salt to injury, it's the Romero Britto version (nothing against him, it's just extremely tacky).
In the mid-2017 era I had my first really serious relationship. It lasted for about 3 years in which I lived through constant abusive and toxic behavior from my girlfriend at the time. She would constantly guilt-trip me, emotionally abuse me, ghost me, berate me and ultimately cheat on me with one of her girl friends. At the time I felt nothing but constant uneasyness around her, we were both high school students and we were from the same class from the same school so everyday was a nightmare.
We met a year prior at the end of elementary school, our relationship started at our graduation party where I kissed her for the first time. Earlier in that year we had met at school and I learned about her abusive parents, she struggled heavly with depression and since I'm someone who likes to help I tried my best to be at her side through it all. She said many, many times that I saved her life at that time, more reason to not wa

Это не погода, а безобразие какое-то. То была жара, ничего делать невозможно, накопилось дел за гланды. Ну, думаю, сейчас похолодает, уж я доберусь! Всех дел с братцем в четверг съездили, кой чо порешали. Все. Пошли дожди и по сто раз на день то дождь, то не дождь. Спать хорошо, т-т-т, не жарко и под шум, но голову ломит постоянно и опять сосредоточиться не выходит. Гррр.

Понятно, что это не самое страшное преступление трамповской администрации. Отнюдь. Скажем, высылка иммигрантов в славящуюся издевательствами над заключенными тюрьму в Сальвадоре несопоставимо хуже. И очень много чего еще несопоставимо хуже этой "приостановки" красной карточки Балогану.
Но эта история — это хорошее неэмоциональное напоминание в какую субстанцию уже не катятся, а успешно скатились США.* * * В этом журнале только перевёртыши стихов и песен.

A Couple of Fancy Canal Houses

I meant to give myself an easier day. I am old, and I get tired, but I still ended up walking 12K steps. I get hungry, too, and I'm scarfing up more fish and frites from a new place. I'm washing it down with cheap, but actually really good, Sauvignon Blanc from Chile. This being Europe there are automatic check out machines. I don't like them, but I can use them. Fortunately, I observed a fellow customer scan her receipt to open the exit gate, so I was able to follow suit.
Pil, what is up with you and all the fish and frites? You did't even have fish and chips that often in London.
Uh. It's the mayonnaise on the frites. I confess. I am an addict. I'm also an addict of bike races, so I have stage three of the Tour on. Only two stages complete, and it's already been a great race.
I booked my visits to the canal houses on line. One required a time. The other just a day. I used my Amsterdam Card to get in free. It has not paid for itself, but if I had had it at the Van Gogh Museum, I would have come close. In my younger days, I really made these cards pay.
I began with a trip to the grocery store. I love these groceries in foreign lands. Apparently our guests at the World Cup found U.S. groceries just as fascinating.
The Canal Houses were easy to find and certainly worth a visit. The Dutch Republic and later Kingdom of the Netherlands created a fantastically wealthy merchant class. Most of their houses have been converted into multi star hotels. The place I'm staying used to be weavers' quarters.
My first stop was the Willet-Holthuysen House where a very informative audio guide is included in the admission. In the mid Nineteenth Century an incredibly wealthy heiress married a rich man with a mania for collecting art. I have a friend (she's on Dreamwidth! She'll recognize herself if she reads this) who in the past has done free volunteer tax help for people come tax season.
It's an amazing help not just because taxes can be a nightmare to figure out for yourself and paying someone else to do them can be pricy but also because the mere fact of another person helping you can be hugely encouraging. And this is true for other miserable bureaucratic tasks as well--anything related to healthcare or unemployment claims or disability, or applications for other social supports. Or other stuff! Contacting any large organization about anything, really.
I've been thinking about this because I and a friend have been doing a lot of this kind help for the Eritrean families I've mentioned, and it's clear to me that all of us could use this kind of help and support from time to time. I know I can! And when someone does help me, I'm so profoundly grateful, yes of course for the practical help, but also for the human kindness. (Side note: people who are supposed to help but who are dismissive, impatient, condescending, etc. do outsized harm; probably most of us have had that experience too.)
So if you have a friend who's facing a bureaucracy monster, and if you have an hour or two you could spend with them, maybe you could offer to be their squire as they take on the monster. (Not talking about tax consulting! My friend who offers tax help gets special training for that! But this other stuff doesn't require that.) And if you're the one facing a monster, maybe you have a friend or an acquaintance you wouldn't mind by your side in the fight? People can be flattered and honored if you ask them ...

Сейчас (2023) по-прежнему женщины чисто визуально преобладают. Но кое-что изменилось с 2010 года, когда писался этот пост. В поликлиниках появилось много врачей мужчин из кавказских народов, а также из Средней Азии. В больницах они стали преобладать. В частной зубной клинике мой врач молодой киргиз. А в школах, в образовании, как и прежде, преобладают женщины. Своих мужчин не хватает для торговли и строительства. В периоды, когда кавказцы и азиаты уезжают к себе (если вдруг курс рубля к их валюте становится невыгодным), то работать буквально некому. Снегом и мусором завалены улицы и дворы, стройки останавливаются.
В транспорте мне часто хочется спросить тётеньку - где твои мужчины? Где мужские члены твоей семьи? Отец, муж, брат, сын, родственники.
И еще: если учитель женщина, то у мальчиков не формируются необходимые психологические мужские качества.

Slowed down the festival prep by having to go to my actual day job, dammit.
In spite of that, I did print all the signs, trim, laminate and retrim them, and finish the stitching on the tent roof repair and seal with waterproof fabric glue. The repair covers some of the fancy painted arches, so I dug out the paint container only to horrifyingly discover that the colour I mixed for it was greatly diluted to a much, much paler blue. Optimistically, I threw in an amout of bright blue which might perhaps come close to the original colour and was giddy with joy when the colour matched first try.
Once the repair is thoroughly dry in the morning, I can paint the arches back in and that will be another job done!
I could be doing more now, but have called it a night for today. Tomorrow is my last chance to finish things before taking the hire truck up to the festival site on Wednesday. I am determined to have a really good time this year.

A River Runs Through It (6.0) - простенький фильм под режиссерством Роберта Рэдфорда про простую семью в монтанской тьмутаракани: два брата вырастают в семье священника при этом до умопомрачения любят рыбную ловлю. Играющему одного из братьев Брэду Питту всего 29, он тут практически юноша!
Body of Lies (6.5) - ДиКаприо и Рассел Кроу разыгрывают ЦРУ-шный детектив, действие которого в основном проходит в мусульманских странах Ближнего Востока. Тут тебе и взрывы, и допросы с пристрастием, и отбивание пальцев молотком, убийства, шпионы, перебежчики и прочие атрибуты добротного action фильма.
Cape Fear (7.0) - Де Ниро великолепно сыграл отрицательную роль злодея, насильника и убийцы. Несильно люблю Джессику Ланж и Ника Нолта, так что они ОК. А Джульетту Люис просто не перевариваю, хотя именно за эту роль она была номинирована на Оскара. В целом фильм - отличная страшилка, вполне рекомендую, если кто не смотрел.
Hoppers (7.5) - прекрасный полнометражный мультик, который придется по вкусу и детям и взрослым. История маленькой девочки, выросшей в студентку, и защищавшей нашу природу от человеческих "улучшений".

I didn't do a whole lot this long holiday weekend. A few things happened on Sunday though. There was supposed to have been this open house early in the afternoon and we made a note of it days ago so we made sure to get up in time to get ready and go over but then we get there and it doesn't seem like anything's going on. I called the agent on the sign to be sure and they had to cancel but will probably do it this coming weekend. In the evening I met Graham and Laura at La Guadalupana at the last minute. I'm still full from tacos! Later at night Mary Beth and I played some Splendor and that was fun. That's about it. Now gotta go back to work.

Я пообщалась с защитниками "комика", который оскорблял зрительницу, а потом пошла почитала решение суда, благо оно совсем короткое. Прикол в том, что приятели "комика" продолжают повторять те аргументы, за которые его засудили :) Грубо говоря, они отрицают тот факт, что он её оскорблял. И в решении суда прямо написано, что такое поведение проблематично, что суд видит в нём попытку отказа от ответственности и нечестность, поэтому и выносит решение в пользу истицы. И после того, как суд им сказал, что так делать нехорошо, они продолжают это делать - продолжают утверждать, что "комик" никого не оскорблял и врать, что он не говорил того, что сказал. Хотя суд вместе с тем решил, что сказанное было оскорблением. Поразительно :)
Я иногда читаю решения суда чтобы понимать как работает израильский суд и как принимаются решения. Этот случай подтверждает мнение, которое сложилось у меня до сих пор. В израильских судах важны искренность и чистосердечие. Особенно в таких не уголовных делах. Если человек даже наделал какую-то херню, но осознал, что был неправ и искренне раскаялся, это сильно повышает его шансы выиграть дело. Но это не случай орков. Орки не понимают что такого плохого во вранье. Даже когда им прямо говорят об этом в суде, до них всё равно не доходит.

Brian likened the on-screen limitations of extras to finding no fish in one spot in a pond remaining insufficient to indicate a total lack thereof. (I likened things hours later to how the Earthbound player's guide uses b-roll to expand on what the game itself has to offer.)
(One way or another, Google Gemini has explained this morning, that aside from a few dub-only terms, even Lucky Star is one of those shows where technicolor is meant only for the audience, where even the protagonists appear much more plain in-setting (Gemini's previous example of such was Oshi no Ko). I guess one could liken this to how both anime and western cartoons alike, with LS as an exception there, tend to put a given character in one outfit day after day, even when it isn't specifically occupational, unless the plot demands something else just temporarily, but otherwise, I don't know anymore whether to consider my attraction to brown hair, originally in the contexts of diverse-haired main casts and blonde-default sex appeal, to be a visual or meta concept. Especially when, after already noting about Sugar and Mon Colle Knights, I had actually noticed a one-off blonde or techni each in Kanon, Release the Spyce, Higurashi: When They Cry, and Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya, and dropped those four for use in the sub-addendum despite having already addressed a difference there from a hypothetically more even distribution in relation to Sugar. Украина впервые ударила по самому большому НПЗ в России
Дроны атаковали крупнейший российский НПЗ, расположенный в Омске, в 2500 км от украинской границы, который является одним из двух нефтеперерабатывающих заводов, до сих пор не подвергавшихся атакам. Об пишет New Voice.
Exilenova+ опубликовал фото дрона FP-1 с нетипичной геометрией крыла, который, вероятно, летит атаковать Омский НПЗ. Нефтеперерабатывающий завод принадлежит компании Газпромнефть и имеет мощность около 22 млн тонн в год.
Губернатор региона Виталий Хоценко заявил о первых «сбитых» дронах в регионе. В аэропорту Омска впервые ввели ограничения на полеты. В то же время Exilenova+ пишет, что по НПЗ было нанесено как минимум два удара.

Моим помощником Демон стал далеко не сразу. Я долгое время вообще не понимала, кто он и какие у него функции.
Про Демона. Проясняем ситуацию.
Субличности косились на него с подозрением. Сам Демон на полноценную субличность как-то не тянул. "За пультом" [я вижу образ пульта из "Головоломки", когда выясняю, кто из субличностей сейчас активен] не стоял, во внешний мир не ходил, ни с кем не контактировал. Черт характера не имел, ничего не хотел и не просил. Иногда требовал каких-то ресурсов, я не понимала, что нужно, но разрешала взять самому.
Ещё одной проблемой было общение - Демон не говорил. Мы общались как бы телепатически: он смотрел мне в глаза и передавал таким образом сразу всю информацию. Я его понимала, но было жесть как неудобно.
Я пыталась растолковать образ.
Демон для меня - образ фэнтезийный. Т. е. представитель расы из другого, фэнтезийного, постустроннего мира. Собака - друг, спутник, охранник. Но тут тоже не всë так просто. По-собачьи Демон себя особо не вëл. Рычал и лаял - да, но не более. Лапу не давал, мячик не приносил, команды не выполнял. Гладить себя давал, но искренне не понимал, зачем. На вопросы толком ответить не мог - не понимал, чего от него хотят. Пояснил только, что он не совсем собака в том смысле, в котором это понимаю я - он скорее демоническая сущность в собачьем обличье. Из относительно минорных, зато с хорошим шансом пройти..., отметим закон уже готовый к третьему чтению депутанки в тюрбане от бен хазира -- о гендерной сегрегации в универах на вторую и третью степени. А по факту, ползучим наездом, как они все делают, и на первую, и на разделение в кампусах, и т.д. Универы с этим боролись сколько могли, т.к. конец всегда один -- приходит куча свиней в шляпах и требуют выпиздить профессорш с лекций и из кампуса. Да и дальше не очень понятно, как они что-то такое будут реализовывать. У меня была харедная докторантка, без всякого разделения, ну дверь в офис оставляли открытой. А вот если будет какой-то кадр из раздельной программы, то у меня он не будет делать ни второй степени, ни третьей, ни с открытой дверью, ни с закрытой. Чего б там эти пидорасы не решили. It's a mild, cloudy day with moisture in the air. I could not see the rain, but I could feel it landing on my skin. The clouds did not look like rain clouds. Nice weather is on its way, if the house martins' behaviour is anything to go by: high, soaring flight means fair weather; low flying means rain is coming.
A secondary flush of leaves has grown on the oak trees — light green leaves at the ends of the twigs, contrasting markedly with the older, dark green leaves. This new growth has been stimulated as the trees recover from the damage caused by the very hot weather a week or so ago.
Bindweed has entwined itself over the stinging nettles, and also up the poison hemlocks, giving both plants the appearance of having grown white, horn-shaped flowers. As both these plants are harmful in their own way, the bindweed may gain some protection from grazing animals.
The hazelnuts further along are now hard-shelled, but still greenish-white in colour. In the dense undergrowth nearby, a ragwort is in flower, its sun-yellow blooms standing out against the surrounding greenery. I could not see any cinnabar moth caterpillars feeding on it. Their yellow and black bands advertise to predators that they, just like the plant, are poisonous. They can strip a ragwort bare of leaves and then either migrate to another plant or eat each other.
At the far end of my walk was another tall, sun-yellow-flowered plant: an elecampane. These are naturalised escapees that were cultivated for medicinal purposes in times gone by.

Just My Bloody Luck (Shane/Ilya) - magical realism (magical pussy acquisition) and crack treated seriously.
I'm somewhat hammered by various deadlines, but also keen to finally start a fic I've outlined (working title "Soft Dads") which I imagine will have an audience of 2 people and a dog (or less), as it'll be gen, about a developing friendship between David Hollander and George Grady (Kip's dad). I feel Kip's dad got shortchanged in the show when Scott called Kip down onto the ice for THE KISS. But that's just a small part of the fic. Now I just need to carve some time out from reading everyone else's excellent fics!
I have only a very few people in my personal circle who are interested when I talk about art stuff. These online journals are the main place I can talk about it. Right now I am so entralled by the little one sheet of paper, messy card/zine art form. Today I am planning to do one on Rainy. Hopefully I will post pics of the finished thing later. I need to let the paper dry for now before I write on it with a pen. In this pic I wanted to include my old most-favorite watercolor set. I'm nearly out of 4 colors so I ordered professional grade tube colors so I can refill with that. They will arrive today and I'm excited about that.
Woke up very
not hungry this morning but I know I should eat something because Candy and I are going hiking. At the moment I'm eating vanilla Greek yogurt, walnuts, granola and blueberries. That is what I usually have as a snack at the end of the day but it spoke to me this morning more that my usual breakfast, which is a fried egg on garlic naan bread with mayo. I eat one of those most every day but today I just couldn't do it. I can barely eat the yogurt.

Сейчас побывала там как в прошлом. Даже не верится, что было такое беспечное, спокойное время.
И оно ведь так и есть - ну, почти - во всяком случае язык все тот же, и солнце, и вино, и горные пейзажи.
Будут вот теперь новые воспоминания.

c.) relatively speaking, it was nothing compared to our now normal "fire season" here, and while an industrial park burned, again, nothing compared to the rail bridge that burned four blocks away two years ago that barely made anything but the local news, because a small fire in Greece during tourist season sells more ad spots globally than our annual Burns Bog fire and regularly scheduled insurance/condo-site-clearing fires

We went on holiday to Morocco from 12th-21st December, and being disorganised we failed to send any Christmas cards (if anyone was wondering why they hadn't received one last year.)
We were then much more tired than expected and went flop for three days. This was in spite of expecting Michael's uncle to stay and having invited my mother and niece (visiting her from Australia) for Christmas dinner.
Christmas Day was Thursday. On the Monday Michael realised that he had picked up a cold on the trip and rang his uncle to ask if he was willing to run the risk of catching it. He had in any case been a bit dubious about the journey and staying over, and this tipped the balance, so he decided not to come. I had already cleared the cat things (feeding station, litter tray, bedding) out of the spare room in anticipation, but to be honest we were relieved about having one fewer guest to worry about. This turned out to be unexpectedly fortunate in view of later developments.
I had ordered a duck and a Christmas pudding from the Gog farm shop, but we had signally failed to do any other preparation. I thought I could probably manage to do everything necessary on Thursday morning.
On Christmas morning my niece texted me to say that my mother was unwell and could I pick up some over the counter medication from a pharmacist. There was one pharmacist open in Cambridge on Christmas day. Fortunately this was over towards the Girton side of town, where my mother lives. I drove over expecting a long queue of sick people, but in fact there was only one other customer there when I arrived.
My mother took the medication and went back to bed. There was no point in my staying as my niece was there, but we kept in touch by phone and text. Towards the evening my mother woke up again, but was no better so I went over and we rang NHS 111. Unexpectedly, we got though in a (relatively) few minutes.
My mother is 93 so is taking medication for various other long term ailments, and it took a

Today is the day the guys are coming to deflower my back yard. Well that doesn't sound right, does it? The bushes are supposed to get trimmed. The flowers are already pretty much gone. But there's a whole lot of bush to cut back. The guys will have to come through the apartment for part of it, as the back yard is high-fenced and gateless. I hope they can just toss the cut stuff over the fence onto the driveway, as I 'd hate to have them repeatedly traipse through the apartment carrying load after load of brush.
This is supposed to begin around eleven o'clock, and I'm not sure my sleep will fit into that schedule. Enduring that much disruption with too little sleep would be extra unpleasant. I was going to do some tidying Sunday, but heat-related exhaustion ended that ghost of a plan. I doubt I'll be able to get my act together enough to do even a little bit of tidying before I have to try to get some sleep (there was a nap Sunday evening, but it won't be enough to et me through the next several hours.) I should also try to eat a bit, though of what I don't know, and perform some minimal ablutions before bed. There will surely not be enough time in the fullness of morning.
Crap. I just remembered I forgot to open the windows and turn on the fan. I've lost about three hours of cool night air. And I think there's a sandwich in my near future, as anything else would generate to much heat. Hurry, Tuesday!
With a last-minute booking, I attended the public lecture
"Monsters in the math: Black holes at the end of physics" by Dr Matt O'Dowd on Friday night with Nitul and Jacinta. Dr O'Dowd is an astrophysicist at City University of New York, and most famous as the writer and director of the YouTube Channel
PBS Space-Time. With some 500 people in attendance, it was a fairly high-level and historical presentation, covering many of the great contributors to the subject, including Newton, the under-rated Mitchell (who coined "Dark Star"), Cavendish, Eddington, Chandraseker, and concluding with Hawking radiation which, if true, means that
everything is lost, which is an ultimate end of the universe.
The topic rather reminded me of another physicist whose presentation I attended over a decade ago, which included contributions to
the return of a static universe. Expressed simply, the idea is that gravity will pull nearby galaxies closer together, whereas those that have sufficient distance and velocity will increasingly get further away, resulting in a universe of tightly packed galaxies (a very bright night sky), but with enormous distances between these clusters. An issue I have with this is that almost every large and mature galaxy hosts a
supermassive black hole at their centre, and they tend to be proportionate to the size of the galaxy. Combined with Hawking Radiation, one is drawn to the uncomfortable conclusion that ultimately everything reaches a complete thermal death where all matter eventually dissolves into a featureless sea of radiation.
Seriously, it's a very long time in the future (
a mere 10^78 years according to recent calculations), and there are smarter minds than mine working on this problem, and many physicists think that quantum information
will be retained. whether through the holographic principle, subtle quantum entanglements, or highly condensed quantum gravity cores. I readily admit I have not explored the issue in sufficient depth to form an opinion o

Все, кому не лень, по многу раз на день употребляют слово «демократия». Не вдумываясь. Якобы это само по себе что-то очень хорошее, к чему надо стремиться. Но и затаскали это понятие, что не разберешь, что оно означает. Если переводить с греческого, то это «власть народа». А что такое власть народа? Власть органа, избранного народом? Да и в Древней Греции и позднее демократия означала разные вещи. Кстати, Северная Корея тоже демократия. И в СССР мы жили «в самой демократической стране мира».
А как вписывается в демократию мировая сеть масонских лож, в которой состоят все политики "демократических стран"? А чем занимаются мировые еврейские организации? Благотворительностью? А кому принадлежат все СМИ в США и в других странах Запада? Но особенно в США.
Я не знаю, что предложить вместо термина прикрытия демократия. Лучше не употреблять его, отменить. Потому что, в принципе, народ выбирать что-либо не может, это аксиома. A reminder to me that there's always something new in fandom. BTS is on their world tour, in the European leg, now in London after performances in Brussels and Madrid, and their set list includes a space for two songs (different for every performance) from their discography. The second performance in Brussels this was one of the songs which is new to me, but I learned was one of the first that SUGA produced. Here's a performance of it from 2017 and we get Mint Hair!SUGA, which, as every ARMY knows, is the best SUGA.
TIL the girl who did the voice of Lilo in Lilo & Stitch was also Samara in the US remake of The Ring??? Also that there was a sequel to Donnie Darko???

I was tired last night (I'd been out at Shelsley Walsh all day) and so I didn't stay up for the football. I'm too casual a fan to bother with 1am kickoffs. I was actually suspecting Mexico would win, so England doing so was a mild surprise. Norway next up and England should probably beat them, but who knows?
Supporting Belgium against the USA tonight. Hard on the American team, who've played really well, but Trump's behaviour and FIFA's capitulation over the Balogun red card means just about everyone outside the US now wants them to lose.
The England women unsurprisingly lost to Australia in the women's Twenty20 final at Lord's. England are clearly a better side now than they were in the Ashes, but Australia are still just too good. Regardless of the slight kerfuffle about the disputed catch, Australia were the better team and deserved to win.

В этот раз я посетил в Питере и Русский музей (включая корпус Бенуа), и Эрмитаж (включая Главный штаб). Преисполнился. Размещать в блоге плохие фото известных картин из топовых музеев не имеет никакого смысла, однако отмечу следующее. Сегодня ситуация с музейными билетами в Петербурге радикально изменилась в лучшую сторону - по сравнению с ситуацией семи-десятилетней давности, когда мы вынуждены были выстаивать перед музеями (в плохую погоду, со скандалами и не всегда успешно) длиннейшие очереди. Теперь любой билет спокойно приобретается в Интернете на определенное время. Это касается и льготных билетов (я, как многодетный отец, почти везде ходил бесплатно). Если опоздали - можно в Сети спокойно переоформить билет на более удобное время.
Трандуїл ще не відправився в Нову Зеландію на зйомки «Полювання на Голлума», він навіть ще не покинув Європу. Сьогодні Лі відвідує відкриття Paris Fashion Ween. Звісно, з супругом.
Господи, як Лі виглядає. Реально справжній Трандуїл. Все, що йому треба для втілення в роль – це поголитися, надіти білу перуку й замазати засмагу тоналкою. І це буде ТОЙ САМИЙ Трандуїл. Неймовірно. Ще ця його худоба, на скріні, де він із супругом – у нього живіт аж провалюється. У «Битві п’яти армій» Трандуїл був мускулистим, він набрав вагу порівняно з попередніми частинами «Хоббіта». Це виглядало ідеально для доспіхів і беззаперечно було важливо для махання мечами, але позначилося на втраті дівочої худоби. А тут у Лі саме ця худоба, оте тонюсеньке як тростинка зміїне тіло Трандуїла, який вигинався навколо Торіна. Це, канєшно, знущання над організмом – вже більше ніж півроку підтримувати таку худобу, нехарактерну для природньої будови тіла, але Лі абсолютно відданий своїй роботі. Ну і, звісно, вид цього худющого тіла не дає заспокоїтися думкам, наскільки схожими будуть імператор Клеон із тільки-но знятої «Фундації-4» та король Трандуїл.

Honestly, it was expected, just wish it wasn't so soon. I just wanted to see the country get one win in this lifetime, now I'll be 27 at the next cup (almost at the end of my life).

Квас получился хороший, алкоголичечкий, в голову шибает прилично, и вкусный тоже.
Вопрос только: а использованные сухари размокшие выкидывать?
И на той мути, что на дне, делать новый квас? Или ваще всю эту байду вылить и забахать новый квас со свежими дрожжами и сухарями?
Памойму, это как-то делалось как хлеб на закваске, старое использовалось вновь.
Но я не знаю, как.

Josephine’s eyeroll was an intricate ritual; it involved her entire body. Her face contorted, her neck lifted her head into a one hundred degrees arc, her arms raised, and her back collapsed against the tree in an obnoxiously creaky noise.
Clarke had seen her the moment she walked out of the beach to be alone —for reasons that were... none of Josephine’s specter’s business.
In a display of maturity, Clarke ripped some grass from the ground and threw it in Josephine’s direction. It missed by several feet, making the other girl snort.

Having overdone things yesterday, when I still wasn’t over this cold, I wasn’t surprised that I’d developed a cough today, and I stayed home from J’s monthly sword performance downtown. DG and AA go fairly often, and they went this time with their visitors; D and S also went, and they hadn’t gone before. I haven’t been to it either, although I’ve seen him do things at the sword school on multiple occasions.
J overdid the sword performing, reactivating his own illness, and left early, after eating his free lunch. He messaged me to say he was on his way; I was in my bedroom working on my computer. I was greatly amused a while later when I recognized the sound of his car turning onto our street! The intersection is three houses away, and there’s nothing distinctive about the sound of his car, but I heard it and thought, “oh, it’s him!” and went outside, and yes, it was. I suppose it’s more likely that my brain had a good guess going of how long it would take him to drive home, without telling me about it consciously, and then pointed out the car sound at the right time.
Once he was home, we sat outside to read together, and after a while we could hear a distant crowd roaring approval of something. My guess was that it was part of the big track meet at the university, but when I looked online I learned that the track meet had ended yesterday. So my next guess was that it was something to do with the rodeo at the county fairgrounds. It’s about two and a half miles away, as the crow flies, but we can hear some of the music from the county fair when that happens, so maybe the rodeo too? But it wouldn’t be amplified like the music, so I really don’t know. There was another cheer a bit later on, too.

Garibaldi is awful. Ivanova is full of animosity. Ivanova can’t act. Draal lumbers. There is bad acting, idiot comedy and it is 2258 and the internet does not seem to exist. Wtf are nets? No thanks. JMS has a deep fear of insignificance. Wtf is a heavy cruiser? Ron Canada has a thankless role. Eyelines are off. Where’s the mess hall? Lise debuts. Security does not exist. There is bad green screen. Where did Lise’s husband and child go in later seasons? Why was Varn forbidden to ask for help? Why is anyone comfortable with a Minbari running the great machine? Delenn has magisterial egoism.
