juniperphoenix: Cartoon Crowley with a rainbow over his head saying "LOVE ME" (GO: Crowley cartoon)
I had a gift certificate to the greenhouse and we went today to pick up a couple of new houseplants. This little guy fell into the cart somehow.

This meme is so handy — thank you, whoever came up with it!

So what have you been up to?

So, what's up with you?
juniperphoenix: Hay bales (Summer)
It's a gorgeous early fall day, sunny and 72˚F with a few fluffy white clouds. I mowed the front yard a little while ago. Now I'm sitting in the hammock drinking cherry apple cider out of a mason jar (chosen not for the hipster cred, but because it has a lid and therefore won't spill everywhere if I knock it off of the tree limb I'm using as a shelf) and catching up on some OTW work. Wifi that reaches into the backyard is such a great luxury.

There is a massive butternut squash vine growing out of our compost pile. It has made its way about eight feet out into the yard and has a couple of squash on it already.

Or "How I Spent My Weekend," by juniperphoenix. :)

Thoughts on the Veronica Mars movie )

On Saturday we hung out with my family, who have been working on cleaning out my grandmother's house since she moved to a nursing home. M and I spent the afternoon in my dad's old bedroom cataloging books. This involved sorting out which ones to keep for sentimental reasons, which should go straight to Goodwill, and which should be investigated further due to their antiquity/possible rarity, and making a spreadsheet of the latter. We got about a third of the way done. So far the most entertaining title we've come across is Peck's Bad Boy and His Pa and Compendium of Fun, Profusely Illustrated.

By about 4:30 everyone was ready for a break, so we went back to my parents' house where we sat outside by a fire chatting and drinking wine before dinner. All in all it was a very pleasant day.

I woke up on Sunday with a cold. :( I had already planned to take the week off for spring break, so at least I don't have to argue with myself about taking time away from work, but on the other hand I was really looking forward to being productive and creative during this break and now I feel like I'm wasting time swanning around the house. Bleh. I have managed to do a few little productive things, but it's still v. frustrating.
juniperphoenix: Al Calavicci with a heart (QL: Bingo)
I'm listening to Hearts of Space, drinking The Weather, eating a cinnamon waffle with Nutella and blueberries, and writing the introductory post for next month's OTW membership drive. The sun is out. It's a pretty good morning.

A few updates from the end of the semester and since:
  • Last month we started watching Downton Abbey on a recommendation from my sister, and it is FABULOUS. (We're only halfway through S3 — no spoilers, please!) Everyone in it is so utterly delightful (except for the few who are despicable), and they make hard decisions and adapt to change and GROW AS PEOPLE to a degree that I was not expecting at all.

  • Graduation happened. To tell the truth, it felt a little anticlimactic. The day I spent in the library writing my last paper felt like a more significant milestone than the ceremony itself. Also, I got sick right after finishing my classes and so the week between then and the actual graduation ceremony did not unfold at all as I had planned. Still, I am FINISHED and that is wonderful. :) I still have a ton of stuff on my plate, but I'm not nearly as stressed as I was.

  • Last weekend we bought an electric lawnmower and I mowed the back and side yards all by myself. This is noteworthy because I had never used a lawnmower before. I was really proud of myself. :) I actually thought it was kind of fun, although I'm sure I'll change my tune about that when the weather gets hotter.

  • I ordered a new microphone and am eagerly waiting for it to arrive. I want to get back into podficcing this summer, and lately I've been dissatisfied with the sound quality I've been getting from my laptop's internal mic. It should result in better quality for my DWFO contributions as well.

  • We saw Iron Man 3 on Friday night. It was delightful! I had been a little apprehensive about seeing it because I was disappointed by IM2, so it was a real treat to end up liking it so much. Is it time for Avengers 2 yet?

juniperphoenix: Angel and Buffy, bloodied in battle, with text: "Heroes" (Buffyverse: Buffy & Angel)
Megan was out of town this past weekend and I was left to my own devices. I managed to stay pretty busy:

  • Recorded a contribution for the Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology

  • Ran errands (post office, bank, grocery store, gas station)

  • Bought a suit, which is something I've been avoiding for years and have lots of weird feelings about. I heroically abstained from getting a brown pinstriped one, even though pretending to be the Doctor would vastly improve my attitude toward suit wearing.

  • 10 hours assorted OTW work

  • Chose a topic and found some sources for my adolescent development term paper (which isn't due until the end of April, but which I want to finish early because I have another, bigger paper due on the same day).

  • Did the laundry

  • Watched a lot of Buffy. :)

In one more week both the university and the OTW will be on break, and I will happily roll around in free time and Christmas preparations. A flood of backlogged posts is likely to ensue.

I signed up for [community profile] fandom_stocking, which is being held on Dreamwidth this year. Here's my stocking.

In other fannish news, I'm enjoying geeking out over the Star Trek teaser trailer (there's a frame-by-frame breakdown here) and eagerly looking forward to The Hobbit. :D
juniperphoenix: Sam Beckett and Al Calavicci (QL: Genesis)
On my way to lunch today, I walked past a concert in the park. The band was playing a rollicking rendition of "American Music," and I stood there and listened with an enormous grin on my face. Thanks, [personal profile] giandujakiss, for hardwiring that song into the Quantum Leap center of my brain. :D
