littledust: Tiana, working towards her dream. ([tp&tf] i'm almost there)
Point the first: I got to hang out with [personal profile] unicorndust! We talked endless amounts of Glee fandom, people being wrong on the Internet, and traded some growing up stories. I also dragged her to see Matthew Good play an acoustic set, since I have a gift for meeting people and then remembering there's a musical event happening in the vicinity. Despite drunk hecklers and Matt's head cold, the show was AWESOME. So much sound from one dude with one guitar! I can't even pick any particular highlights, because the first seven songs were from three of my favorite albums. "Suburbia" probably wins, though, just from the sheer amount of time I've had to adore it.

Point the second: [livejournal.com profile] pocky_slash wrote me a daycare!verse fic because she's great. Erik reads to tiny Raven and then to Charles in the course of one evening! That's the plot! IT'S THE GREATEST PLOT.

Point the third: I let my paid LJ account expire. I miss my icons. :(

Point the fourth: Remix is upon us again! Since I have a long weekend thanks to the awesomeness of my boss, I'm going to be taking prompts in remix fandoms! Comment with a character or pairing, plus a song lyric. DO IT DO IT DO IT. I've been writing nothing but lesson plans for a month and a half.

List of fandoms for prompting! )
littledust: Shakespeare is the man! ([kb] billy shakes in the house)
Monday after a holiday, why ya gotta? My December calendar is full of assignments, fic exchanges, and social engagements. I'm not sure how I'm going to get it all done, but I suppose I'll have fun in the process! Ha ha ha this is my TERRIFIED face.

I wrote a thing! How It Falls is an XMFC fic about Charles being a jerk, the X-family going shopping, ice skating, and Erik having some feelings. I had so much fun writing family antics that this thing is practically gen, guys. Fun fact I learned while writing this: Germany's most common flavored potato chip is paprika. The more you know!

In other news, D and I are almost all caught up on Fringe. We spent a lot of time laughing over the anvilicious writing. Blue!verse is still my favorite verse and I miss it. :(
littledust: Faith in Buffy's body. ([btvs] a walking study in demonology)
If anyone needs me, I will be running around wild-eyed and shaking my fist at the sky. I ask myself, "How does this happen?" Then I answer, "Because you are a full-time student and a full-time teacher and you actually decided to have a life last weekend! Then you spent all Sunday on Tumblr. Now you will die, because you have three assignments due in the next four days, and you just handed in two today."

Haunted houses + [livejournal.com profile] pocky_slash + [livejournal.com profile] brilligspoons + other lovely people = NO REGRETS JUST LOVE (and a turkey leg), though. Kait and I had an entire conversation about how Charles and Erik periodically "kidnap" each other to lounge around on tropical islands. Then Scott leads the X-Team to the rescue and is all, "I HAVE SAVED YOU, PROFESSOR X. :D" Meanwhile, everyone else is face-palming and/or laughing.

Lightning TV update! Parks and Rec: MAGICAL SHINY RAINBOW HAPPINESS IN EVERY EPISODE, YES I HAVE CAUGHT UP. Community: the last episode was perfect! Fringe: All Olivias all the time! Unpopularly, I still like Peter! [Glee spoiler] is wonderful! [Other Glee spoilers] are terrible! Exclamation point!
littledust: Girl with rainbow-colored thoughts. ([glee] sweet lady kisses)
So here is the promised meta on my fannish life in shipping, and a bit about how it's changed over the years. This is really about my fannish history in general, but since I am such a shipper, I'm keeping the title. Herein lies my childhood loves, my adolescent loves, and my contemporary loves in fandom. There is also some reflection on misogyny in slash fandom.

3900+ words of tl;dr on shipping. )

Grad school: done for the semester. Let's see if I can get that 4.0! In celebration (also because I have felt miserably exhausted all week), Housemate J and I saw Thor last night. Non-spoilery review: Kenneth Branagh should always direct superhero movies, because they end up full of joy and wonder and hilarity. Afterwards, J and I got BEER and WINGS like the gods intended.

I just realized I never posted about the Fringe finale! )

Other TV opinions: I'm up to The Vampire Diaries 2.05. The show has rampant Issues, but there are SO MANY HARDCORE LADIES. ELENA. BONNIE. CAROLINE. ♥ I also checked the list of future Glee songs and spoiler for an upcoming song. )

Finally, I just finished the third book in the Thursday Next series. I'm having a hard time making up my mind about it. Obviously I like it well enough: it's English major brain candy and Thursday is an awesome heroine. Trouble is, I don't think Jasper Fforde does conclusions very well. I mean, the end of The Well of Lost Plots featured spoiler. ) That's not clever, that's just not good writing. Thoughts?

I missed posting yesterday due to surprise drunk karaoke in the kitchen! My priorities are good and I feel good about them. Went out for brunch today, will never need to eat again. SO MUCH FOOD was on that table.

So, I finished Kafka on the Shore like a month ago and then never posted about it! Metafiction and symbolism are fun to bend the brain around. I like most cerebral fiction, but I rarely end up loving it because it's so difficult to connect to the characters. This book was a good read, but Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World is still my favorite Murakami. I wonder if it has something to do with the books having different translators as well. If I remember my professor right, Murakami fired his first translator because critics were saying his books were even better in English. Scandal!

I keep meaning to watch last Friday's Fringe, but I'm unsure if I actually want to. There are bugs and the Spoiler of Do Not Want. Thoughts?

30 Days of Glee - Day 16 - Favorite Episode )
littledust: Peter, hilarious grimace. ([fr] grr argh)
Whooooo busted her passenger side window? That would be me. I'm so glad that we're getting another storm this week, because narrower streets are exactly what I need. I facepalm forever.

Onto better things! [livejournal.com profile] bookelfe recently saw Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark and wrote the most glorious review. It gives me fond flashbacks to the time I drank an entire bottle of wine during a college mainstage, because the director was terrible but my friends were in it. Ah, youth.

Fringe 3.11 Reciprocity )

30 Days of Glee - Day 5 - Favorite Duet )
littledust: Girl with rainbow-colored thoughts. ([fr] real science!)
Breaking news: I made a tumblr. I think I added everyone who's posted about tumblr recently, but let me know if you have one! There are just too many pretty pictures floating around that site.

So, NBC used a generator to create the hypothetical children of various Community pairings. Go and witness the, um, beauty. Also, this week's episode! Community 2.12, Asian Population Studies )

Then OLIVIA DUNHAM, LADY BADASS OF MY HEART returned to the television screen last night. Fringe 3.10, The Firefly )

Also, [livejournal.com profile] sotto_voice is a heinous bitca for making me care about Glee spoilers. Miscellaneous spoilers for upcoming episodes, obviously. ) Goodness, long post is long.

It's been a rather quiet Sunday, which seems fitting after yesterday's somber news about Rep. Giffords. Not much happened today in the way of RL productivity, but I did a few things on the Internet. [livejournal.com profile] littledust got a new layout, and I posted 106 Fringe icons to [livejournal.com profile] agirlnextdoor.

[personal profile] newredshoes has written a list of reasons to watch Fringe. It makes me happy in my soul.

Via [livejournal.com profile] beckerbell, fyeahsailormoon is the tumblr of my HEART.

Stan Lee's Twitter will never not be amazing. Yes, double negatives, I know. Excelsior!
littledust: El, teacup in hand. ([wc] lord tea me strength)
SOOOOO CLOOOOOSE THE END OF THE SEMESTER IS NIGH. (So I can scale down to just working a full-time job! Huzzah!)

Those who know me can probably guess how I reacted to last week's Glee. Glee 2.10, A Very Glee Christmas )

Conversely, last week's Fringe was about the spaces between broken people. I eat up well-done narratives about grief with a SPOON, people. Fringe 3.09, Marionette )
littledust: Rachel Berry, belting it out. ([glee] maybe this time)
Seeing Tangled in just a few hours! I AM EXCITE. Things that are also exciting: Yuletide! I am reviewing my source right now and I am just full of feelings. It is a very SMALL small fandom, though, so I doubt anyone will care about my story but my recipient. BUT after reveals I shall do a picspam. This might have some chance of actually happening, what with winter break and all.

On to things I have been meaning to blog about! I saw Burlesque with my sister over Thanksgiving break. It is what you would expect: an explosion of glitter, Christina Aguilera, and Cher. It is not as good as Mamma Mia!, my other so-called guilty pleasure movie musical, but I have loved Xtina since "Genie in a Bottle." Plus there is bonus Kristen Bell! I'm not saying I would read Nikki/Ali, but I would read Nikki/Ali.

Glee 2.08, Furt )

Last week's episode of Glee made MY FACE EXPLODE WITH ~FEELINGS. Expect a lot of flailing under the cut. Glee 2.09, Special Education )

I don't have much to say about last week's Fringe, but hey, this is my epic TV post. Fringe 3.09, Entrada )
littledust: Rachel Berry, salute! ([glee] aye aye cap'n)
So, yes, I still exist. This post will be a mishmash of various reasons I have been MIA and various things I have been meaning to post about. I fail at blogging.

I have been doing city things! I went to see Howl on Thursday. Spoilers: Allen Ginsberg & life partner are adorable, and animated poetry doesn't really work when it looks like Pixar for adults. I also went to see Henry IV, Part I last night, which featured an excellent cast. I'm officially old: it was a struggle to stay awake for both events.

I got A's on my first two grad school assignments! I have some hope of keeping my scholarship and not existing in a puddle of financial panic.

Glee! 2.04 "Duets" was actually good, and featured the Rachel Berry I know and love, as opposed to the pod person of previous s2 episodes. Also, more Brittany/Santana is always welcome.

In the past week and a half, one of my housemates and I have INHALED two seasons of Fringe + all current episodes. We have Serious Discussions about it over pancakes. I am in love. I kind of want to sing a Disney song about how I have ~*never felt this way before*~ about a character (Olivia Dunham) and a ship (Peter/Olivia). Except I totally have, but I am in the honeymoon phase! STARS IN MY EYES. Please expect a post chronicling my EPIC LOVE in the future.

Recs:
Serenade by [livejournal.com profile] sotto_voice (Glee, Brittany/Santana) -- ADORABLE fic. Just. ADORABLE. And her whole prompt post is pretty much gold. Will Schuester as one of Ramona's evil ex-boyfriends! I'm just sayin'.
Boom Boom Pow by [livejournal.com profile] hollywoodgrrl (Fringe, Olivia) -- Everyone and their mother has already recced this, but in case you need convincing that you should watch Fringe, like, right now. Olivia Dunham not only has swagger, she has swagga.
