| Name: | Gaspard Laurent |
|---|---|
| Birthdate: | Nov 1 |
Gaspard Laurent officially became the assistant Louis-Bernard Guyton-Morveau, a member of the Committee of Public Safety, on May 13th, 1793, when he was twenty. Unofficially, he had been working with the National Convention for several years, cozying up to suspected royalists and finding evidence to prove it or to deny it.
He continued this work as well as his official role of assisting the Committee throughout the Reign of Terror and the subsequent White Terror.
With the advent of the French Consul, Gaspard ingratiated himself to Jean-Jacques-Régis de Cambacérès, supplying the same services to Napoleon -- rooting out the disloyal and handing them over to the authorities -- that he had to Robespierre. He remained safely in his position of use even after the fall of the Consulate and the rise of the French Empire under Emperor Napoleon I.
(Not Blake Ritson or Gaspard Laurent.)
