Titanic II is a 2010 film that is not a sequel to the 1997 film. It was created by The Asylum.
This one is a disaster film that takes place in 2012, 100 years after the original shipwreck with a new ship, the RMS Titanic II setting sail on April 10th and doing the reverse course of the original ship (New York to Southampton instead of Southampton to New York), but suddenly global warming causes tsunamis all around the Atlantic Ocean. Taking place on the same night, April 15th, but this time, our passengers will suffer more a grave and fatal watery grave.
The film was released on August 24, 2010 and received negative reviews, saying it was filled with too many cliches.
Titanic II provides examples of:
- Abandon Ship: And how! A similar disaster in this film happens in a similar way to what the ship is named after, and everyone attempts this with varying results.
- Anyone Can Die: Many important protagonists are not protected by Plot Armor whatsoever, and they die in numerous ways throughout the film. Including the male lead Hayden.
- Character Title: The film is about the RMS "Titanic" II.
- CPR: Clean, Pretty, Reliable: Subverted. Amy repeatedly tries to do this to Hayden in this manner, but to no avail.
- Darker and Edgier: We're not saying the original disaster was by any means light-hearted, but this takes a more deeper and explosive turn as the ship in this film suffers worse.
- Didn't Think This Through: The disaster of the ship is the result of the ship crew not understanding the weight of the tsunami coming, and therefore should've cancelled the voyage altogether.
- Legacy Vessel Naming: The RMS Titanic II, the ship in the movie itself.
- Sudden Downer Ending: A large number of protagonists die suddenly at the end. From all the passengers, Amy and a small number of people whom Hayden saved early on are left as the only survivors.
