Why VAXhacker? Far back in my misspent youth I did indeed spend too much time hacking VAXen (and yes, I mean "hack" in the classic sense of the word, not as in "ph3@r mY 1337 haX0r p0w3rz". It's slightly irritating that the popular media have now co-opted the term to refer only to those who wear 'black hats' and write destructive viruses and such). The name itself is a reference to the old DEC WARS anthology that was floating around the 'net way back when most folks you met had never heard of computer networks...
